Zlechov: Wine, Cycling and History
Accommodation in Zlechov
Zlechov brings together cycling, winegrowing and heritage from several historical periods. When planning your trip, you can consider these highlights separately: route connections add an active dimension to your visit, while religious buildings, monuments and archaeological finds reveal the town’s history across different eras. Guided wine tastings at Vinařství Jakubík are another option. You can decide whether you’d like to discover Zlechov mainly by bike, through its history or through its wine culture.

Cycle Route 5151 passes through Zlechov. The cycling connection can be continued via Tupesy to Velehrad. This gives you the option of planning a ride through the town or extending it through the places named above. Check the current route before setting out, as details may change.
The 80 km-long Velkomoravská Pilgrimage Cycle Route is suitable for bicycle trailers. This adds a specific route length and information about trailer suitability to the details about Cycle Route 5151.
Churches and historical heritage
A chapel dedicated to St. Anne has been documented in Zlechov since the 14th century. The present-day Church of St. Anne was built nearby, on the site of the former chapel, between 1992 and 1994. In the village square in front of the church stands a Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1733.
The stone cross “Smírčí kříž” is located at the cadastral boundary of Zlechov towards Staré Město. It is one of the few surviving stone witnesses to an old legal custom in the region. The wayside shrine “Boží muka” bears witness to popular Baroque piety and the tradition of religious roadside stations. The church, statue, cross and wayside shrine thus represent different forms of religious and cultural remembrance.
Archaeological finds
The archaeological finds also span a broad historical period. In the Valy district, a settlement from the Late Roman period, dating to the 4th–5th centuries, was discovered, with a total of 198 settlement features. It is among the oldest finds of its kind in the Czech Republic and the only one of its kind to have been fully excavated.
A Neolithic settlement dating to around 5000 BC was discovered in the Padělky district. Finds include Linear Pottery and stone tools, among them a shoe-last celt. The two sites mark widely separated points in time: Padělky points to the Neolithic around 5000 BC, while Valy dates to the Late Roman period.
Winegrowing and tastings
In the 16th century, Zlechov’s vineyards, covering 57 měřic, were among the largest in the region. Vinařství Jakubík in Zlechov offers guided wine tastings. One format includes six wine samples and lasts about an hour. A larger tasting features more than 20 wines from tanks, as well as young and cellared wines, and includes a tour of the production area.
When choosing between the formats, you can take their different focuses into account: allow about an hour for the format with six samples; the larger tasting pairs a wider selection of wines with a tour of the production area. If you plan a tasting, check the current formats in advance, as details may change.
