Žítková offers travelers several distinct points of interest: the Moravské Kopanice Educational Trail, the Hutě Nature Reserve, traditional houses and the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Kopanice. When planning your stay, you can choose between longer trails, nature-related attractions and local history. Trail lengths and elevation gains help distinguish the different options on the educational trail; protected areas and cultural sites offer further points of interest.

Choose an Educational Trail by Length

The Moravské Kopanice Educational Trail introduces the landscape around Žítková and Starý Hrozenkov. Its 14 stops present historical and natural attractions. It follows forest and field paths and is suitable for hikers, mountain bikers and, in winter, cross-country skiers. When planning your time outdoors, you can choose one of these listed activities as your guide.

The main loop is listed as 11.6 km long, with an elevation gain of 410 m. The branch to Lokov is 4.7 km long, with an elevation gain of 110 m, while the branch to Hutě is 1.1 km long, with an elevation gain of 50 m. Including the branches, the total length is 23.1 km. The branch to Hutě is shorter than the one to Lokov; the main loop is longer than both. The three elevation gains also differ considerably: they range from 50 to 110 to 410 m. This lets you compare trail length and elevation gain together, rather than relying on a single figure for all the options.

Hutě Nature Reserve and Protected Landscape

The Hutě Nature Reserve protects an area of landscape value, particularly significant plant and animal communities. It is considered the most valuable protected area along the Moravské Kopanice Educational Trail. The reserve overlaps with the Bílé Karpaty European Site (3314) and the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (71). These two protected-area designations are among the specific nature-related topics you can take into account when planning your trip.

Žítková also has protected orchid meadows. Together with the plant and animal communities of Hutě, they offer another focus if you would like to plan your trip around nature.

Houses, Chapel and Local History

You can still find a group of traditional houses in Žítková. Another cultural landmark is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Kopanice. It was built in 1990 and consecrated on September 8, 1991. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Kopanice, Saints Cyril and Methodius, Agnes of Bohemia and Saint Zdislava of Lämberg.

On the chapel’s altar stands a statue of the Virgin Mary of Kopanice with the Child. The figure wears traditional Kopaničáři folk dress. The year of construction and the date of consecration mark two successive events: the chapel was built in 1990 and consecrated in 1991. The dedication and the altar statue add religious and regional context to this timeline.

Visitor Information and Local Products
