Ořechov lies in the southeastern foothills of the Chřiby and in the valley of the Ořechovský potok stream. Extensive areas of vineyards remain on the southeastern slopes. The stream shapes the valley landscape, while the vineyards provide a second distinctive feature. Castle history, chapels and recurring local events add cultural themes to this picture. If you are looking for a hotel in Ořechov, you can plan your trip around the landscape, cultural heritage and local events.

Landscape and Cycling Routes

A tourist cycling route runs through Ořechov, as does the Moravská vinařská cyklostezka. The “Kolem štěrkopískových jezer na rozhlednu” route also passes through Ořechov. Cycling is therefore a concrete point of reference for a stay, alongside wine growing and cultural heritage. These named routes add a different perspective on the town to trip planning than its castle and chapel history.

Castle and Chapels

Ořechov Castle was built on the site of a former fortress. A Baroque chapel was added to the castle. It remained in use until 1783 and, following restoration after 1941, is still in use today. Its architectural and usage history thus extends from the former fortress site to the continued use of a chapel. The castle is therefore more than a single building when it comes to understanding the town’s cultural history: it connects several historical associations and phases of use.

In the park in front of the castle stands the heritage-listed Chapel of St. Wenceslas (Kaple sv. Václava), with a bell tower. It houses a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1747. The chapel was remodeled in 1849 and reconstructed in 2011–2012. This building brings together protected status, sacred furnishings and dated alterations. The statue and the two interventions provide distinct points in time for understanding the chapel.

Another place of remembrance is the Chapel of the Guardian Angels (Kaplička Andělů strážných) on the road to Syrovín. It was built in 1873 as a memorial to soldiers from Ořechov who returned from the war. Its commemorative purpose focuses on the town’s soldiers and places the chapel within local memory.

Traditions and Culture

Slovácké hody s právem takes place every year on the feast of Saint Wenceslas, with many young people and children taking part in traditional costume. An Easter market and the Košt ořechovky are also held regularly. The Hody is tied to the feast day, while the Easter market and Košt add further recurring events to the calendar. If you are planning your trip around one of these events, check the specific date in advance.

The Folklórní sdružení Ořechov is dedicated to preserving and developing the folk traditions, customs and traditional dress of the Slovácko region, and aims to organize public cultural events.
