Košíky at the Foot of the Chřiby: Local History and Hiking
Accommodation in Košíky
Košíky lies in a valley at the foot of the Chřiby. The original settlement pattern is still recognizable in the older parts of the village, and there are numerous hiking trails in the surrounding area. This brings both local history and activities in the surrounding area into focus when planning a trip.
Settlement Pattern and History
Košíky was founded in the mid-17th century by a Count of Rottal as a linear settlement. A linear settlement is an elongated form of settlement; the term draws attention to the layout of the village rather than to a single building. The original pattern is still recognizable in the older parts of Košíky. The village’s founding and its settlement pattern are therefore linked: the historical term can be connected to a visible feature. For travelers interested in how a place developed, this connection offers a tangible way into local history.
Chapel, Boží muka, and St. Hubert Sculpture
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary dates from 1880. The Boží muka, a wayside shrine, dates from 1860 and is located at the edge of the forest; a sculpture of St. Hubert stands in the center. The dates span the period from the 17th-century founding to the Boží muka and then the chapel. The Boží muka is twenty years older than the chapel. The locations also distinguish these features: one stands at the edge of the forest, while the sculpture of St. Hubert is in the center.

This means there are various interests to choose from when planning your time in the area, in addition to hiking. Mushroom picking depends on the season, so bear this seasonal consideration in mind when planning your stay in Košíky.
A cycling route passes through Košíky and then climbs to the Paseky signpost. Its course can be divided into two sections: first through the village, then uphill to the signpost. Check current route conditions before setting out.
