Lopenik offers several starting points for planning a stay: the Naučná stezka Lopeník educational trail, marked hiking routes of varying lengths, and the observation tower on Velký Lopeník. When choosing a route, both its theme and the stated starting and ending points can help.

An educational trail with nature and culture themes

The Naučná stezka Lopeník educational trail is 7.3 kilometers long and has eight information stations. It is suitable for hiking and cycling, as well as cross-country skiing in winter. The trail is accessible year-round; check local conditions before visiting in winter. Combining exercise with stops along the way also makes the trail appealing to travelers who want to learn more about the area as they go.

At the U Zvonice stop, visitors are introduced to the plants and animals of the nature monument of the same name. Another themed stop is the listed Farmhouse No. 141, where the trail explains elements of folk architecture. The well-preserved farmhouse is also a remarkable testament to the history of the Moravian Kopanice. The trail thus brings together themes of nature and regional architectural history.

Choose hiking routes by distance and destination

The green-marked hiking route runs from Mikulčin vrch through Lopenické sedlo, Malý Lopeník and Velký Lopeník to Staré díly. It is about 10.5 kilometers long. The yellow-marked route runs from the U Točny bus stop via Chata Lopeník to Malý Lopeník and is about 5 kilometers long.

Another route length is given for the observation tower: a 4.5-kilometer route leads from the Lopeník parking lot to the tower on Velký Lopeník along the Naučná stezka Lopeník educational trail. The descriptions therefore list different starting points and destinations. When choosing a route, you can consider the distance together with its destination rather than comparing distances alone.

By distance, the route from the parking lot to the observation tower, at 4.5 kilometers, is the shortest of the routes described here; the route to Staré díly, at about 10.5 kilometers, is the longest. In between are the yellow hiking route, at approximately 5 kilometers, and the 7.3-kilometer educational trail. The named places give the routes a concrete point of reference, such as Malý Lopeník, Staré díly or the observation tower as a destination.

Views from Velký Lopeník

The observation tower stands on the 911-meter-high summit of Velký Lopeník in the Bílých Karpaty. It is made of oak wood and is 22 meters tall. After climbing the stairs, visitors can enjoy views of the Bílých Karpaty, Hostýnské vrchy and Vizovické vrchy. The Beskydy on the Czech side, as well as Malá Fatra and Malé Karpaty on the Slovak side, are also among the sights listed.

The view takes in several landscape regions and extends across both the Czech and Slovak sides. How far you can see depends on the weather. For planning purposes, the tower can be combined as a destination with the routes described: one route leads from the Lopeník parking lot up to the observation tower along the educational trail. Visitors interested in regional nature and architectural history will also find dedicated themed stops on the trail, including exhibits at the nature monument and Farmhouse No. 141.
