Boršice Between History and Festivals

In Boršice, archaeological themes meet living traditions and practical routes through the municipality. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing the lasting historical themes from festivals held on set dates throughout the year.

Following in the Footsteps of Mammoth Hunters

A camp of mammoth hunters dating to around 30,000 BC was discovered at the Chrástka site. Finds include tusks and bones from several mammoths, bones from other animals, and several thousand stone artefacts. The “Po stopách lovců mamutů” nature trail explores this theme and is approximately 1 kilometre long.

Along the nature trail, there are information boards, life-size wooden sculptures of animals and mammoth hunters, animal tracks and a shamanic post. Covered seating areas are also provided. The route is intended for hikers, families with children, seniors, residents and visitors to the municipality of Boršice, as well as school trips. The information about its intended visitors and length gives you a clear idea of what the nature trail is designed for.

Church, Mill and Cycling Route

The Church of St Wenceslas has been dedicated to Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech lands, since at least the 16th century. It was extensively rebuilt in 1791. The church has three altars; the main altar features a painting of Saint Wenceslas by Ignác Raab. In this way, a dedication dating back many centuries and a precisely dated renovation are complemented by details about the church’s furnishings.

The historic Sovín water mill, also known as Horní, is another part of the area’s history. It still has its original milling equipment. The “Cyklostezka sv. Metoděje” cycling route, meanwhile, connects Boršice via Zlechov to the main cycling routes of the Uherské Hradiště area. It follows an old road that Saint Methodius may have regularly travelled in the 9th century.

The distances are also useful for orientation: the nature trail is approximately 1 kilometre long, while the section of the cycling route in the cadastral area of Boršice measures 1,640 metres. This section begins by the last houses, near Dolní mlýn. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by their respective lengths and the themes described.

Traditions Throughout the Year

The Slovácké hody s právem festival takes place every year on the third Sunday in October. The exact programme may vary. A programme from 2012 also describes a Sunday procession of costumed Chasa through the municipality of Boršice.

A wine tasting with approximately 1,000 wine samples takes place in Boršice every year on Easter Sunday; the exact date may vary. For a one-time admission fee, you can taste wines of your choice using a glass decorated with the event logo. If you would like to plan your trip around either of the two festivals, check the specific date and programme before making arrangements. The different dates help you place a stay within the annual calendar, while the nature trail, church, mill and cycling route offer further historical themes to consider.
