Hradčovice: Nature Trails, Views and Local History
Accommodation in Hradčovice
There are several reasons to stay in Hradčovice: nature trails, the Rovná Hora Nature Reserve, the lookout tower in the village district of Lhotka and the Church of All Saints. The routes vary in length and focus; views and architecture complement the nature themes with landscapes and local history.
Nature trails: compare length and focus
The “Hradčovice–Drslavice” nature trail is a marked, five-kilometre route with a focus on natural history. It starts in Hradčovice village square. Its stops provide visitors and passers-by with information about the area’s valuable fauna and flora. In good weather, the route offers views of the Poolšaví landscape; it also runs alongside the Rovná Hora Nature Reserve. Natural history information and weather-dependent landscape views are the defining features of this route.
The “Po hranici devíti katastrů” nature trail is well signposted and accessible from Hradčovice. It is about nine kilometres long and is also suitable for cycling. It is longer than the five-kilometre Hradčovice–Drslavice nature trail; this second route is also specifically suitable for cycling. The two routes can therefore be compared by the stated features: length, natural history and cycling.
Rovná Hora and the lookout tower in Lhotka
The Rovná Hora Nature Reserve lies 1.3 kilometres north of Hradčovice, in the cadastral area of Lhotka. It protects a species-rich population of endangered insects, particularly butterflies. The Hradčovice–Drslavice nature trail runs alongside the reserve. This links the trail’s natural history focus with a protected area of particular importance for insects and butterflies.
Another place to take in the landscape is the lookout tower in the village district of Lhotka, which belongs to the municipality of Hradčovice. The tower is 35 metres high, and its viewing platform is 18 metres above the ground. From there, you can see the White Carpathians and Mount Velká Javořina. The two height measurements refer to different things: 35 metres is the tower’s total height, while 18 metres is the height of the platform.
The Church of All Saints and local history
The Church of All Saints in Hradčovice stands on the site of the original cemetery grounds. A wall surrounds the area, with pillars set in front of it. The church’s earliest construction phase dates back to the 13th century. Its architectural form also has specific features: it is an east-facing, single-nave building with a rectangular floor plan, a short transept and a set-back, three-sided chancel. A four-sided bell tower is attached to the façade.
The church offers a way to trace both its long building history and the structure of the building. Hradčovice’s history also includes a fortress: it was owned by Oneš ze Šarova in 1360. The Church of All Saints and the fortress represent different historical themes; the church is described through its construction phases and architecture, while the fortress is associated with the year 1360 and its owner at the time.
