When looking for a hotel in Veletiny, you can plan your stay around architectural and wine-growing culture, local traditions or cycling routes. The wine-growing municipality stretches along the foot of the Hlucká pahorkatina hills. When choosing your travel dates, it is useful to distinguish between them: the traditions take place on specific Sundays, while the architectural and landscape attractions have different focal points.

Wine Cellars in Stará hora

The Stará hora area is home to 16 wine cellars dating from the mid-19th century, which are protected as a monument to folk architecture. Their number, period and protected status give this collection a clear place in architectural history. This focus is independent of the traditions tied to specific dates: here, the emphasis is on protected architectural heritage, not a particular event date. If you are interested in rural architecture, Stará hora offers a tangible point of reference.

Búdy, Tvrz and the Village Square

Veletiny has preserved the oldest typological form of the Búdy. The protection status of the Búdy complex as a whole is a separate matter: in 1995, the Government of the Czech Republic declared it a heritage conservation area. The Tvrz Veletiny fortress was built by Záviš, known as Veletka of Veletiny (1365–1406). Remains of the oval fortifications survive, having been discovered during archaeological investigations. The village square is also home to a life-size sandstone statue of Saint Anthony. The area’s cultural and historical points of interest therefore range from preserved architectural forms and fortification remains to a religious monument in the village square.

Traditions and Their Dates

In Veletiny, the Nošení Mařeny tradition is regularly observed on Smrtná neděle Sunday; Nové léto also regularly takes place on this Sunday. The královničky procession takes place on Pentecost Sunday. This gives you different dates to consider when planning your trip: two traditions take place on Smrtná neděle Sunday, while the procession is held at Pentecost. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these traditions, check the specific event date in advance.

Cycling Routes, Crosses and Views

The routes offer different points of interest, too: the Uherskohradišťská vinařská stezka wine trail passes through Veletiny, while a marked cycle route towards Vlčnov runs by the protected Veletiny folk architecture reserve. There are seven crosses in the cadastral area of Veletiny. The newest stands beside a field track that climbs between the fields to the ridge between Veletiny and the Kojatínek forest. In suitable visibility conditions, this cross offers a good panoramic view of Velký Lopeník, Velká Javořina, Buchlov and the hills above Provodov. The field track, ridge and viewpoint provide a specific connection to the landscape, alongside the two distinct routes.
