Kněžpole between the March and the floodplain forest
Accommodation in Kněžpole
Kněžpole lies on the left bank of the March in the vast plain of the Dolnomoravský úval. The March forms the natural western boundary of the cadastral area of Kněžpole. The Kněžpolský les floodplain forest, which covers 333 hectares, lies between the village and the river. The river and its floodplain landscape are therefore important geographical features of the village. Other highlights include the Trnovec and Kanada nature reserves, St. Anne’s Church, and a sports complex. If you are looking for a hotel in Kněžpole, you can make nature, local history, and sports different focal points of your stay. The landscape has two distinct spatial features: the March forms the natural boundary of the cadastral area, while the floodplain forest lies between the village and the river.
Floodplain Landscape and Protected Areas
The Trnovec Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Kněžpole u Uherského Hradiště. The 2024–2033 management plan provides for the preservation of a species-rich hardwood floodplain forest and diverse floodplain meadows. These habitats provide favorable conditions for endangered plant and animal species. Early spring is considered the best time to visit Trnovec: this is when the herbs in the forest understory bloom and grey herons nest. The recommendation links planning a visit with two specific seasonal natural phenomena.
The Kanada Nature Reserve has a different focus. It protects endangered aquatic and wetland flora and fauna typical of this habitat. Kanada is a cut-off branch of the March, about 1.3 kilometers west of Kněžpole and within the cadastral area of Kněžpole. The area was created in the 1930s when the March was regulated and covers 18.7303 hectares. By comparison, Trnovec is characterized by hardwood floodplain forest and floodplain meadows, while Kanada draws attention to aquatic and wetland habitats.
Church and Sports Complex
St. Anne’s Church traces its origins to a new chapel built in 1856 and dedicated to Saint Anne. It was expanded in 1996 and 1997, and consecrated as a church in October 1997. Its history thus links its beginnings as a chapel with its later expansion and consecration.
The sports complex includes two illuminated tennis courts with synthetic surfaces and a practice tennis wall. There is also an illuminated, synthetic-surface multipurpose court for various sports activities, as well as an adjacent beach volleyball court. The grass training field is also part of the complex: it is shared with volunteer firefighters, who regularly hold firefighting sport competitions there. The natural areas and sports facilities thus offer different ways to enjoy Kněžpole.
