Traplice: Sacred Buildings and Slovácko Traditions
Accommodation in Traplice
Traplice offers several starting points for planning a stay: sacred buildings, local history, Slovácko traditions, and a shared cycling and walking path between Traplice and Sušice. If you are looking for a hotel in Traplice, you can first consider whether culture, an event date, or outdoor activity is the main focus of your trip.
Local History and Buildings
Traplice was first mentioned in 1228 in a deed of donation to Velehrad Monastery. At the center of the village stands a two-storey stone bell tower dating from the second half of the 18th century. Its pyramidal roof narrows towards the top, giving the tower a distinctive roofline. Near the Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové stands a five-metre-high stone cross dating from 1820. It rests on a tiered pedestal with volute-shaped wings on the sides. Volutes are curved, spiral-like ornaments; here, the term describes an architectural detail of the pedestal.
The Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové was consecrated on 5 September 2009 by Mons. Jan Graubner, Archbishop of Olomouc. Several different historical reference points are therefore found in one place: the first written mention in 1228, the 18th-century bell tower, the cross from 1820, and the chapel’s consecration in 2009. These dates thus refer to different types of events.
Behind house No. 20 is a clay building with an upstairs chamber and a living room with a tiled stove. It also has a wooden beam ceiling, a black kitchen, and a through-passage barn. Unlike the stone buildings, this structure highlights clay construction, wood, and the furnishings of the living room. The different parts of the building make its layout, combining living spaces and a barn, easy to understand.
Traditions and Local Facilities
Local traditions include the Slovácko Hody s právem. Their dates vary from year to year. By contrast, the traditional Traplice wine exhibition returns in early March; visitors can taste around 350 wines from the Uherské Hradiště region there. For travel planning, the difference in timing is worth noting: the exact date of Hody changes each year, while the wine exhibition is associated with early March. If you want to plan your stay around either event, check its date before booking.
Another local facility is the bowling alley in Traplice, which has two fully automatic lanes. Alongside events rooted in tradition, there is also a specific leisure facility with clearly described amenities.
Landscape and Shared Path
Traplice is located in the Chřiby Mountains and also in the flat valley of the Jankovický potok. The connection between Traplice and Sušice is for cycling and walking, while the Chřiby and Jankovický potok describe Traplice’s landscape setting. The shared cycling and walking path was completed on 25 June 2021. If you plan to use it, check local surface conditions before setting out. The landscape and the path connection can therefore be considered as separate points of reference for your stay.
