Stod offers several specific points of interest for a stay: architectural and local history, vehicle exhibitions, and two routes with different itineraries. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you are most interested in architecture, historic postal routes, vehicles, or the landscape along the Radbuza. Each building and route has its own focus, providing useful guidance for planning your itinerary.

Stará pošta: façade and postal history

Stará pošta has a striking Baroque façade with three richly decorated gables. Its history is also connected with postal services: as early as 1548, it served as a letter and riding post, and the building served the Prague–Plzeň–Klenčí postal route. Another historic episode was the overnight stay of Russian General A. V. Suvorov in 1799.

The two dates point to different aspects of the building: 1548 to its postal function, and 1799 to Suvorov’s stay. Stará pošta thus brings together architectural details and the history of postal services. Anyone interested in Stod and its architectural history will find both a distinctive façade and several specific historical connections here.

Church architecture in two forms

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is a three-nave building with interior furnishings ranging from the Baroque to the Neoclassical period. The number of naves describes the layout of the church interior; the stylistic range refers to its furnishings. The building’s form and interior thus offer two different points of reference for understanding its architecture.

The Špitální kaple (Hospital Chapel) has different features to focus on. It is a centrally planned, hexagonal building dating from the early 18th century. Its pyramidal roof is topped by a roof turret. In 1720, the chapel received an altar dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk. A comparison highlights different points of interest: the church is defined by its spatial layout and interior furnishings, while the chapel is distinguished by its shape, roof structure, and altar. Anyone interested in church architecture can therefore see different building forms in Stod.

Vehicles in historic brewery buildings

Volkswagen Beetles and Porsche vehicles are on display at the Vehicle Museum Stod. The exhibitions are housed in the buildings of a 16th-century brewery. The distinctive chimneys bear the date 1544. Vehicle exhibits and the history of the brewery buildings thus sit side by side: specific vehicle types are represented, while the date on the chimneys points to the historic fabric of the buildings. For visitors weighing up what interests them, the museum connects automotive themes with a distinct architectural-history focus.

Routes between the town center and the Radbuza

The STODSKO nature trail begins at Komenského Square. On the later section, take into account the longer distances between some of the stops: this part is therefore more suitable for cyclists. When planning, it is helpful to consider the starting point and this later section separately, rather than applying the recommendation for cyclists to the entire nature trail.

The Dětská trasa (Children’s Route) runs across meadows along the Radbuza to the center of Stod. Here, the landscape and destination define the route described. The two route descriptions therefore offer different points of reference: for STODSKO, these are the start at the square and the longer distances on the later section; for the Dětská trasa, they are the route across the meadows to the center. When choosing a route for your stay, you can base your decision on these specific differences.
