Ves Touškov combines a distinct cultural and historical character with a connection to cycling. Its defining features include the folk architecture conservation area, the Church of St. Margaret, traditional rural houses on the village square and the long-distance cycling route “Dálková cyklotrasa”.

Townscape and Conservation Area

In November 1995, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic designated Ves Touškov a folk architecture conservation area. This designation gives the rural townscape a clearly defined cultural and historical context. A row of preserved, valuable traditional rural houses stands on the village square. The conservation area and the houses on the village square shed light on the subject from two angles: the designation situates the place, while the houses represent a specific row of traditional rural buildings. If you pay attention to historic townscapes during your stay, Ves Touškov combines a broader cultural theme with a specific, locally situated example.

Church of St. Margaret

The Church of St. Margaret has Gothic origins. In 1846, the nave was extended, and a gallery and tower were added. These details mark different building phases: its Gothic origins and the extensions of 1846. The nave is the church’s elongated main section; during restoration, an original pointed-arch Gothic portal entrance was discovered in its wall. A pointed arch comes to a point at the top, distinguishing it from a round arch.

The church also has a three-part Rococo organ from the early 19th century. It predates the alterations of 1846. The organ and portal entrance thus add two specific aspects to the history of the building’s changes: an earlier furnishing and the original Gothic entrance. At St. Margaret’s, the Gothic origins, earlier organ and dated alterations can therefore be distinguished from one another.

Village Square and Key Landmarks

A strikingly large village square features a prominent Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, a work of local significance. It adds a different historical accent among the traditional rural houses: a Baroque religious artwork alongside the architectural theme of folk architecture. Another monument stands beside the Church of St. Margaret in the central part of Ves Touškov. This identifies both the village square and the area beside the church as specific points of reference in the town.

Cycling and Accommodation

The long-distance cycling route “Dálková cyklotrasa” passes through Ves Touškov. If you are planning a cycling trip, you can therefore include the town in your route and accommodation plans. Your choice of destination can be guided by two different questions: would you like to focus on local history and architecture, or is the connection to the long-distance cycling route the deciding factor in your travel plans?
