Měcholupy U Blovic: Woodland, Cycling and Local History
Accommodation in Měcholupy U Blovic
Měcholupy U Blovic is a destination for anyone who wants to consider woodland, outdoor activities and local history when choosing where to stay. The built-up area of Měcholupy lies on the southern slope of the extensive Chýlava forest massif. This landscape includes the nature reserve of the same name, which covers 25.90 hectares. It preserves a mixed stand of old deciduous trees and a rich protected ground flora. The massif, reserve and plant life each provide a tangible connection to nature and together shape the character of the surroundings. Depending on whether nature, activity or an event at a particular time is especially important to you, you can weigh these different points of interest as you plan your trip.
Woodland and cycling
The countryside around Měcholupy is suitable for cycling. This adds a specific activity to the area’s setting by the forest massif. If you want to consider both nature and exercise when choosing a destination, you can include both in your plans.
Swimming on hot summer days
On hot summer days, the local fire-water reservoir in Měcholupy can be used for swimming. Unlike the general suitability of the countryside for cycling, this option is limited to hot summer days. If using the reservoir is important for your travel dates, check in advance.
Local history and theatrical tradition
Měcholupy was first mentioned with a year, 1360, in a property register of Pomuk Monastery. This early mention provides a fixed point in time for the village’s history. The Měcholupy Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1889. It had a theatre stage, for which additional scenery and a new curtain were acquired in 1913. The curtain was painted by Jaroslav Vaisar of Nepomuk. Clubs from surrounding villages and travelling theatre companies also borrowed the stage. The dates mark distinct chapters: the village’s early written mention, and the founding and later cultural use of the fire brigade’s stage.
Another historical point of interest lies near Měcholupy: earlier archaeological investigations took place at the Velká Skála site, and more recent finds were later recovered. This adds an archaeological connection in the area to the local and fire brigade history. If you are interested in archaeology, Velká Skála is an additional regional point of interest.
Dated events
The Volunteer Fire Brigade’s 2024 events calendar listed Měcholupská lávka on 6 July from 1:00 p.m., as well as entertainment for the pilgrimage festival featuring AGNES ROCK from 8:00 p.m. The Měcholupská pouť, including the crossing of the footbridge, took place from 12:00 p.m. on 2 July 2022 until 11:59 p.m. on 3 July 2022. The calendar entry and the dated pouť relate to different years and are time-specific examples of local events. If a festival is a deciding factor in your trip, check the current dates before booking your hotel.
