Mladý Smolivec: Trails and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Mladý Smolivec
Highlights for a stay in Mladý Smolivec include the Formanská Trail, churches dating back several centuries, and insights into past events. Depending on your interests, you can focus on outdoor activities, architectural history, or past event programs.
Trails for Different Interests
The Formanská Trail between Starý Smolivec and Dožice is open to cyclists, inline skaters, runners, and walkers; in winter, it can also be used for cross-country skiing. The route follows a path that served as an important land route for carters in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Formanská Trail thus combines its uses today with its historic role as a transport route.
Along the Formanská Trail, visitors can use three rest areas equipped with tables, benches, bicycle racks, and waste bins. Facilities may change, so check the latest information before your visit. When choosing a route, it is also worth considering other options: the Všerubská Route of the St. James Way passes through Mladý Smolivec and can be used by hikers heading southwest from Prague. The marked cycle route 2168 runs south from Míšov toward Chloumek and is 19.3 kilometres long in total. The details therefore vary depending on the type of use and the route in question: from the range of activities on the Formanská Trail, to the hiking context of the Všerubská Route, to the total length of cycle route 2168.
Churches, a Chapel, and a Château
The early Gothic Church of St. Giles in Budislavice dates from the second half of the 13th century. Its Rococo main altar features a painting from 1859. The building thus brings together a medieval origin and much later furnishings. The Chapel of St. Lawrence in Mladý Smolivec dates from 1887 and offers another point of reference in the history of religious architecture.
The Renaissance Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Dožice was built in the second half of the 16th century and extensively altered in the 19th century. The Baroque château in Starý Smolivec dates from the mid-18th century. Together with the Church of St. Giles and the Chapel of St. Lawrence, these buildings span a broad period, from medieval architecture through the Renaissance and Baroque periods to later alterations. For a culture-focused stay, you can explore different periods and architectural styles as distinct points of interest.
Landscape Connections
Pod Štědrým Nature Park extends into the cadastral area of Mladý Smolivec in the southwest. The Brdy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Brdy) partly reaches into the northern tip of this cadastral area. The two protected areas concern different parts of the boundary: Pod Štědrým in the southwest and Brdy in the north. This distinction is useful if you are considering the landscape alongside the trails and buildings when planning your trip.
Looking Back at Events
The Budislavice Fish Festival (Budislavické Rybí slavnosti) was held in Budislavice for the eighth time on 18 July 2026. This edition featured, among other dishes, smoked carp, trout, and African catfish, as well as carp schnitzel, grilled mackerel, and carp fries. The food on offer also included fish tartare, salad, gobies, and fish soup.
At BUDIFEST 2026, visitors could enjoy beer and wine, as well as smoked foods straight from the smokehouse, sausages, grilled Hermelín cheese, and fries. Another highlight was the traditional walk Pochod z obce do obce (Walk from Village to Village): its 14th edition took place in December 2025. The 2025 walk began in Budislavice and headed toward Mladý Smolivec.
