Robčice – Settlement History, Chapel and Village Pond
Accommodation in Robčice
Robčice brings together an early settlement history, a chapel, a village pond and a route to Litice. Its historical milestones range from the beginnings of settlement to the creation of a path in 2015.
Settlement History in Three Periods
Settlement in what is now Robčice dates back to the Neolithic. The area around Robčice has been continuously settled since the Bronze Age. These are two distinct historical stages: the beginnings of settlement and permanent settlement. The oldest surviving written mention of Robčice dates from 1373. This year adds a written point of reference to the much earlier settlement history; it should not be confused with the beginning of settlement.
The Chapel and Its Architecture
The chapel in Robčice was built in the second quarter of the 19th century. It has a square floor plan with chamfered corners. Above it rises a pyramidal roof, topped by a roof lantern with an onion-shaped cupola. The architectural features can be read from the ground up: the chamfered corners alter the square outline, while the roof lantern and cupola distinguish the upper structure. The roof shape and its crowning element are therefore separate architectural features. The construction period and architectural form offer two different ways to understand the chapel: a historical timeframe and a concrete description of its design.
Village Pond and Watercourse
The village pond in Robčice covers about 0.6 hectares. An unnamed stream rises below the Vysoká forest complex and feeds the pond; from there, it continues as the Robčický potok. The source area, pond and named downstream stretch can therefore be understood as connected parts of the same watercourse. The pond is also a natural history site; a botanical record of a find there dates from 1902. The area and the historical record describe different aspects: its spatial extent and its significance for natural history.
The Path to Litice
The path from Robčice to Litice was created in 2015 along the route of an earlier sunken lane. The year marks the creation of the path, not the age of the older route. Two time periods must therefore be considered: the dated creation of the path and the route that came before it. Compared with the chapel, which was built in the second quarter of the 19th century, the path is newer; at the same time, its route follows an older course.
Summer Concerts at the Outdoor Pool
Summer concerts were held repeatedly at Robčice’s outdoor pool from 2010 to 2023. A concert was announced there for July 12, 2025. The dates distinguish between concerts that actually took place and a later one-off announcement. If concerts are important to your travel plans, check the latest event dates in advance.
