Nekvasovy: Chapel, Mining History and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Nekvasovy
Nekvasovy combines its connection to the railway, cycling and cultural history with a distinctive landscape: the village lies in a valley by the Nekvasovský potok, and the Kojčínský potok is also part of its waterways. The Chapel of Saint Procopius, evidence of medieval mining and several memorials give the village’s history different points of focus. When planning your trip, you can decide whether getting there, a cycling route or the historical themes matter most to you.
Getting there by train
Nekvasovy railway station is part of the integrated transport system. It is on line 191 from Plzeň to Strakonice; the line continues towards České Budějovice. This route places Nekvasovy on a named rail connection and may be relevant when planning your journey there or onward. Since transport services and timetables may change, check the current connections for your travel dates.
Valley, waterways and cycling route
Cycling Route No. 2046 passes through Nekvasovy and is 35 km long. From Mladý Smolivec, it runs via Kasejovice, Řesanice, Oselce, Chlumy, Nekvasovy, Milčice and Pačejov to Horažďovice. This sequence shows the role of the village in a route described through several stops. The 35 kilometres refer to the route as a whole; when planning your own ride, you can use the named places to orient yourself along the route.
The rivers are another distinct feature of the local landscape: the valley by the Nekvasovský potok and the waterways around the Kojčínský potok are part of Nekvasovy’s geographical setting. The local landscape and the cycling route that passes through the village thus offer different starting points for planning your trip.
Chapel and religious tradition
The Chapel of Saint Procopius stands above Nekvasovy and commemorates medieval mining in the area. The tradition of pilgrimages and festive services on the saint’s feast day is still observed there. Two periods therefore meet here: the chapel recalls the history of mining while also being associated with a religious practice that continues to this day. This connection is especially important if you are interested in cultural history; the chapel does not represent only a bygone era.
Mining and memorials
Gold-bearing ore was mined in the Middle Ages on the wooded hill of Vráž. A cross on a dressed granite base commemorates the abolition of the robot labor obligation in 1848. Robot labor refers to compulsory work duties. Another monument commemorates local residents who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Compared with the chapel, which has both historical and religious significance, these memorials highlight other themes: mining history, the abolition of an obligation and remembrance of war victims.
Community events
A report from January 2023 mentions Shrovetide processions, raising the maypole and switching on the Christmas lights on the Christmas tree as community events in Nekvasovy. These examples represent different kinds of community occasions. If any of them are relevant to your trip, check the dates in advance.
