Příchovice: Castle, Chapels and Ticholovec
Accommodation in Příchovice
If you are looking for a hotel in Příchovice, the castle’s history, chapels and trails around Ticholovec offer different ways to shape your stay. Attractions range from architectural history and seasonal cultural events to walking routes. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing permanent historical features from activities available only at certain times.
Castle and culture
Příchovice Castle replaced a stone castle complex surrounded by a moat, dating from the 14th century. It was built as a Baroque castle in 1718–1719. The history of the older castle complex and the construction of the castle therefore belong to different periods.
The castle serves cultural and social purposes. Classical concerts are held there, and theatrical performances take place in the castle park every year. Dates and access may vary. If you would like to plan your trip around a concert or performance, check the specific event dates before arranging your stay.
The local theatre scene also has a more recent history: the amateur theatre group Buřina revived theatre in Příchovice in 2011 and performs at the Příchovice Cultural Centre and in surrounding municipalities. Check the specific dates separately for upcoming performances.
Chapels and seasonal traditions
The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 2006. Its doors remain open from the beginning of Advent until Epiphany. At night, you can see the illuminated nativity scene and the chapel interior through a glass door. Before travelling, check the seasonal dates and whether the illumination is scheduled.
On Christmas Eve, scouts from Příchovice distribute the Bethlehem Light at the chapel. If you would like to attend the distribution, check the date in advance. The Chapel of St. Anne is also associated with local tradition: according to local lore, French soldiers were laid to rest there.
Ticholovec and local trails
Ticholovec is a 480-metre-high hill southeast of Příchovice. At the beginning of the 18th century, people liked to visit the area for its healing baths, statues and romantic setting. Today, the “Se sv. Vojtěchem okolím Přešticka” educational trail ends in Ticholovec Forest above Příchovice. If you plan to follow the trail, check the conditions on the route locally.
From Přeštice railway station, you can reach Příchovice by a walking route of about two kilometres. Factor this distance into your journey and check public transport timetables in advance.
At Příchovický potok, you can descend to the stream by the weir; above the bridge, 15 stone steps lead down to the watercourse. Dense vegetation makes it difficult to access parts of the water. Keep this in mind when planning a visit to the stream.
On the “Stezka českých pohádek” trail in Příchovice, children can search for ten stones painted with fairy-tale motifs. The municipality plans to move the stones and add more, so their exact arrangement may change.
