Borovy offers a range of reasons to stay: sacred architectural history, historic granaries and mills, memorials, and marked trails through the countryside. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and the annual pilgrimage sit alongside historic granaries, the Prokop Mill complex, and memorials. For outdoor activities, forest and farm tracks, marked walking trails, a specific hiking route, and the connection to the long-distance cycle route CT 38 provide further guidance.

Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and Pilgrimage

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a late Baroque building and also the centre of Borovy’s annual pilgrimage. These two aspects complement each other but serve different purposes when planning your trip: its late Baroque classification describes the architecture, while the pilgrimage reflects the chapel’s recurring annual religious significance. If you are interested in sacred architectural history, the style offers a clear point of entry; the annual pilgrimage adds the local religious tradition to this perspective.

Historic Granaries and Prokop Mill

Two historic grain granaries, known as Špíchary, have been preserved in Borovy; one of the two has been reconstructed. Prokop Mill offers a different architectural feature: its complex includes a three-storey main mill building, with a two-storey flour store dating from 1897 standing beside it. The number of storeys distinguishes the buildings: the main mill building has three, while the flour store has two; the year 1897 refers to the flour store. This makes it possible to distinguish between the grain granaries, the mill building, and the flour store by function and building type.

Memorials in Borovy

Three memorial plaques in Borovy commemorate victims of the Second World War and are visible from the road. The Borovská lípa is a 19-metre-high memorial tree in Borovy. The plaques and the tree represent two different forms of remembrance: a specific dedication to the victims of the Second World War and a memorial tree.

Hiking and Cycling

Borovy has forest and farm tracks as well as marked walking trails that make it possible to cross the countryside. One marked hiking route is 12 kilometres long and starts at Borovy railway station; it runs via Mezihoří to Švihov. This allows you to distinguish between general guidance on local trails and a route with a named start, intermediate point, destination, and length. The train is recommended for travelling to Borovy railway station; check current services before setting out. As trail conditions can change, also check the route conditions before your hike.

Cycling has a different connection: Borovy is one of the municipalities served by the priority long-distance cycle route CT 38. The route runs from Plzeň via Klatovy and Nýrsko to Železná Ruda. While the hiking route is described by its length, start, and destination, CT 38 places Borovy on a long-distance cycle route that extends beyond the local area.
