Mileč combines a historic focal point with distinctive landmarks in the landscape and routes that pass through the village. When planning a hotel stay, you can first consider whether your trip will focus mainly on the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the landscape views from the monument north of the village, or hiking and cycling. These different points of focus give you a concrete framework for considering Mileč as a destination and planning your trip around your interests.

Church of Saints Peter and Paul: Architectural History and Organ

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul took on its present form in 1764 on the site of an older place of worship, which is believed to have dated from the 14th century. It was built to a design by the prominent Baroque architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The historic organ was also made in 1764: the Plzeň organ builder Leopold Rausch built it for the church. It is important to distinguish between the different periods: the 14th-century date of the older place of worship is only an estimate, whereas both the church’s present form and the construction of the organ date to 1764. The organ remained in a severely damaged condition, while retaining a high degree of authenticity, until the beginning of the 21st century; it was saved thanks to the initiative of Mileč residents.

Monuments and Landscape

The monument to the victims of the Thirty Years’ War lies north of Mileč. It offers distinctive views of the landscape, particularly Zelená Hora Castle and the town of Nepomuk. At the heart of the village stands the mighty Milečská lípa (Mileč Lime Tree), beside the historic gate of a farmstead. The difference is also one of location: the war monument opens up views of the landscape, while the lime tree stands in the village beside a historic gate. A restored stone wayside shrine, formerly called a “Boží muka,” also stands on the road from Mileč to Nepomuk.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

The marked Nepomuk–Oselce hiking trail passes through Mileč, heads south to Maňovický rybník and then southeast into woodland. The 2041 Nepomuk–Plánice cycle route takes a different direction: it comes from Nepomuk to the north, also passes through Mileč and heads west to Plánice. Your planned direction is a practical guide when choosing between the two: south and southeast for the hiking trail, west for the cycle route. Check the current trail markers on site for both routes.

Getting Your Bearings

Railway line 190 between Plzeň and České Budějovice runs east of Mileč; a station on this line is about one kilometer south of the village. If you are planning to travel by train, check the timetable for your travel dates. A class III road branches off to the south, passes through Mileč and then branches further to serve nearby settlements.
