Kolovec combines a tradition of craftsmanship and local history with scenic views and a cycling route that passes through the town. If you are looking for a hotel in Kolovec, these different themes can help guide your travel planning: ceramics and technical exhibitions, historic buildings, cultural events, or trails in the surrounding area.

Crafts at the Museum and Pottery Workshop

The Muzeum techniky a řemesel Koloveč presents 67 complete craft workshops and trades, as well as twelve technical exhibitions. The subjects on display include clocks and mechanical musical instruments, prams and toys, electrical appliances and kitchen equipment. Animal traps, exhibits on milk processing and a fire station are also included. The collection thus ranges from technical objects to aspects of household life and work.

Another craft tradition is connected with the Volf family pottery workshop. It has been making traditional folk pottery in Kolovec since 1785 and is still in operation. The pottery craft has been passed down there from father to son for seven generations. The museum offers a pottery-wheel demonstration for groups of more than ten people who register in advance. As booking conditions may change, you should confirm them before planning a group visit.

Church, Town Hall and Local History

A major fire destroyed 51 houses, as well as the town hall, school and church, in 1729. The church was rebuilt in the Baroque style after the fire; reconstruction was completed in 1732. Its church tower is 35 metres high. Inside is an original sculpture of the Stations of the Cross. These details give the church both an architectural and an artistic dimension, without confining it to a single period.

The present-day town hall was built between 1826 and 1830 to replace the former town hall after it was destroyed in the fire. Today it is used as a library and meeting room for local associations. The Liberation Monument is also part of the town’s history: it was restored in the town centre in 1990, just four metres from its original location. Together, the church, town hall and monument represent different chapters in Kolovec’s history.

Views and Routes in the Surrounding Area

Kolovečská vyhlídka offers views of the panoramas of Šumava and Český les. The named mountains and elevations include Javor, Ostrý, Čerchov, Haltrava, Zvon, Přimda and Sedmihoří. These names show which landscapes shape the view and provide specific points of reference for anyone interested in the surrounding area.

The Plzeň–Regensburg cycling route passes through Kolovec. Along this route, you can visit interesting places in the surrounding area on foot or by bicycle. Netřeb is also a nearby natural attraction: it is surrounded by deciduous forest with yew trees and rare forest flora, including martagon lilies. The surrounding area thus offers both a designated cycling route and a distinctive natural setting to explore.

Events Throughout the Year

The traditional play “Přemílání bab na mladá děvčata” attracts several thousand visitors and is one of the recurring folk performances. In addition, Koloveč Municipality, local associations, the primary school and the kindergarten organize numerous regular cultural and social events every year. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular play or event, check the dates for your visit.
