In Kružberk, churches, the reservoir and activities on trails or at the rock face each offer a different focus. When planning your trip, consider whether you would like to centre it on historic buildings, a hiking route, cycling or climbing. The distances also vary: from a trail of about one kilometre to the climbing rocks to a cycling route of around 44 kilometres.

Churches from different centuries

At the southern edge of Kružberk, near the bridge over the Moravice, stands the Church of St Peter and Paul. This small late Gothic church, built in a vernacular style, dates from the first half of the 14th century. It is a state-protected cultural monument and one of the oldest churches in Silesia. A notable feature of its furnishings is the organ, dating from 1808. It is known in Silesia for having the largest number of original components still preserved and was restored in 2014. The building thus reflects both its medieval origins and the history of its later furnishings.

The Church of St Florian offers another point of reference in time. The builder Antonín Englisch constructed it in 1812 on the site of a church about 100 years older, which had become too small. St Florian has a Stations of the Cross with 14 images dating from 1883. Its construction date, predecessor church and sequence of images thus point to different stages in the local history of the church.

The reservoir and the Moravice

The Kružberská přehrada is a reservoir on the Moravice. It was built between 1948 and 1955 as the first reservoir in the Oder catchment area. In addition to this technical history, it also has a cultural connection: in 1985, the reservoir and its surroundings served as a filming location for the nine-part television series Velké sedlo.

The river is also relevant to your plans if you are considering a trip by watercraft. The Moravice is navigable for approximately 100 kilometres, but only when water is released from the Kružberská přehrada under controlled conditions. Check the current water release and safety information before setting out; navigability depends on this condition.

Trails, cycling route and climbing rocks

The Čermákova naučná stezka nature trail in Kružberk is 5.2 kilometres long and has eight stations covering nature, historical monuments and notable figures from the region. Its route follows the riverbanks, passes the Kružberské cvičné skály and the dam of the Kružberská přehrada, and goes by an animal enclosure. There is also a red-marked hiking trail of about one kilometre from Kružberk towards the reservoir, leading to the climbing rocks. These two routes are different in nature: one is a nature trail with several themed stations, while the other is a marked approach to a specific destination.

The Kružberské cvičné skály consist of three main areas: Žabí kůň, Hlavní masiv and Rozlámaná. Climbing routes up to 50 metres long run along the rock faces, in corners, cracks and chimneys. Check the conditions and fixed protection before climbing. If you prefer cycling, there is another option on a different scale: the Moravice Cycle Route No. 551 runs from Kružberk via Hradec nad Moravicí to Opava and is approximately 44 kilometres long. Most of it follows class III roads and paved or unpaved forest tracks. As route conditions and signage can change, it is a good idea to check the current waymarks before setting out.

The ruins of Radisko-Kružberk

The ruins of Radisko-Kružberk Castle lie in a forest about 1.2 kilometres southwest of the town centre and approximately 400 metres east of the dam. They occupy a distinctive rocky outcrop above the left bank of the Moravice. The castle served as a lookout over a trade route and probably fell into disrepair during later internal unrest and the Hussite Wars. Its history adds another perspective on Kružberk’s past alongside the churches, while its location and approximate distances help with orientation.
