Příčina: Views, memorial sites and village history
Accommodation in Cause
For trip planning, Příčina combines historical connections to the village with several distinct landscape features. Memorial sites lie opposite the municipal office; other points of interest include the slopes above the village, a viewpoint at Vrch Divín and Kamenné stádo in the forest west of Příčina.
Memorial sites opposite the municipal office
In the park opposite the municipal office stands the protected Jilm drsný I tree. The memorial to the fallen of Příčina is also located there. The cross of Antonín Nachtikal also stands opposite the municipal office and dates from the 18th century. The municipal office is therefore the shared reference point, while the three markers serve different purposes: a protected tree, a historic cross and a memorial to the fallen.
A writer and the slopes above the village
Tomáš Antonín Pánek was born in Příčina on 22 February 1901. The slopes above the village were a popular destination for excursions during his childhood. Pánek wrote more than two dozen adventure novels for young readers. His connection to Příčina thus includes both his birthplace and a landscape from his childhood; his literary work adds to this biographical connection.
Views and landscape
At Vrch Divín, there is a viewpoint at the water tower on the road from Příčina to Žďáry. In clear weather, the view from Příčská hora extends to the Ore Mountains and the power stations of northern Bohemia. The two viewpoints differ: at Vrch Divín, the water tower is the specific point of reference, while the view from Příčská hora explicitly depends on the weather.
Kamenné stádo lies west of Příčina, in the forest in the direction of Petrovice. As another landscape feature, it complements the viewpoints with a named natural landmark in a forest setting.
Architectural traces of the past
The surviving remains of Příčinská tvrz are visible today in two places: in a row of houses east of the village, in the direction of the former school building, and on the north side of the former enclosure. The visible remains provide an architectural connection to the village’s history, distinct from the memorial markers opposite the municipal office.
Another architectural trace is the historic colony in Příčina. It comprised ten semi-detached houses built as workers’ accommodation for the “Ludvík” hard-coal mine; some of the houses have survived to this day despite alterations. The number and type of houses make their connection to the mine concrete: this is a colony of workers’ accommodation, not a single memorial marker.
While Příčinská tvrz is represented by remains visible today, the houses in the colony can be understood through their number, type and function for the mine. Together, these places show different architectural traces of Příčina’s history.
