Křivoklát: Castle, Educational Trails and Motorcycle Museum
Accommodation in Křivoklát
Three distinct highlights can help you plan your stay in Křivoklát: the castle and its guided tours, trails focusing on nature and forests, and the Křivoklát Museum with its technical collection. There is also a recreation and education area with a forest playground, as well as the KO8 cycling route, which passes through Křivoklát. This lets you choose the themes you want to shape your stay: cultural history, information about nature, play and recreation, the history of technology, or cycling.
Křivoklát Castle and the House of Habsburg
Křivoklát Castle is a national cultural monument. During guided tours of the castle, you can see the late Gothic castle chapel and the Great and Small Knights’ Halls; the tours focus on the House of Habsburg. The guided experience thus combines a look at sacred architecture and knights’ halls with a dynastic theme. This can help you choose if you want your visit to include not just individual rooms but also a historical focus.
Recreation Area and Forest Playground
The recreation and education area and the Křivoklát forest playground can be visited at any time and free of charge. Facilities include a rope course, slides and climbing structures, as well as a fire pit, information boards and a geological exhibition. There are options for physical activity alongside opportunities to learn. You can decide in advance whether you want to focus on the play and climbing facilities or on the boards and geological exhibition. Details of the recreational facilities may change. If a particular feature is important to your plans, it is best to check its current condition before your visit.
Two Educational Trails with Different Themes
The Brdatka educational trail is known for its unique views of the Berounka River valley. Its 17 information boards cover the nature reserve, fauna, flora and forest. The views and nature-related topics give this trail its own distinct focus. The Křivoklát School Educational Trail starts at the primary school in Křivoklát, on the left bank of the Berounka. This circular route has eight information boards about forests, water, trees and shrubs, and animals; after completing the circuit, you must return to the school. When comparing the trails, both their themes and the stated starting and return points are relevant: Brdatka offers valley views and information about the nature reserve, while the School Educational Trail covers forests, water, trees and shrubs, and animals along its circular route.
Motorcycles at the Křivoklát Museum
The Křivoklát Museum is located right on the grounds of Křivoklát Castle, below the castle. It displays around 150 exhibits. These include the complete series of mass-produced Jawa and ČZ touring motorcycles, from the beginning of their production through 1959; later models are also on display. The collection also includes nearly all versions of Jawa cars, Praga motorcycles, Pionýr mopeds, as well as Stadion, Jaweta and Babeta mopeds, and other special models. The technical focus thus extends beyond a single motorcycle series to include cars, small motorcycles, mopeds and special models. The composition of the collection may change.
KO8 Cycling Route
The KO8 cycle tourism route passes through Křivoklát. If you include this route in your cycling plans, check the trail conditions and signage before setting out, as both may change. This lets you consider cycling as a distinct focus alongside the castle, educational trails and museum.
