Rynholec lies on the northern edge of the Křivoklátské lesy. The landscape and architectural history offer different ways to explore the area: from protected individual trees and open landscape features to the long village green in the historic centre. A marked educational trail of about 10 kilometres adds a route through the town and countryside to these attractions.

Landscapes and a Protected Linden Tree

The agricultural landscape on the western and southwestern edges of the built-up area is very well preserved. There are also two registered landscape features of significance, each with distinct characteristics: VKP Stráňky Rynholec comprises xerothermic grassland and meadows. VKP Remíz u trati is a varied valley alongside the railway line in a mining landscape near Rynholec. One area is characterised by dry, warm grassland and meadows, while the other is a valley with pronounced contours in a mining landscape.

Another distinctive feature is the protected individual linden tree Lípa v Rynholci in the cadastral area of Rynholec. It was granted legal protection in 1990. Its estimated age of 220 years is given as of 1 December 2009; the crown height of 19 m also refers to that date. The tree's height was later recorded as 20 m, on 16 January 2020. The estimated age and height figures therefore refer to different points in time.

Chapel, Village Green and Historic Traces

The Chapel of St Isidore is a small, plastered masonry building with a rectangular floor plan and a pitched roof covered with slate. Its simple shape and covered gable roof give the building its distinctive appearance.

The regular layout of the historic village centre has been preserved in its northern and southeastern parts. There, houses and farmsteads stand gable-end-on around a distinctly elongated rectangular village green. The orientation of the buildings and the green's elongated shape define the character of these areas. The historic Rynholecký dvůr lies on the southern edge of the municipality; it has been preserved and successfully revitalised.

Traces of medieval fortifications are also among the area's historic features. On the wooded hill of Starý zámek, about 2 km south of Rynholec, only a mound with a relatively extensive fortification remains of Sobín. The site has a rectangular ground plan measuring 70 × 100 m. Massive ramparts can be seen on three sides, while the ditches are now mostly filled in. The ground plan, ramparts and ditches describe the surviving earthworks; they differ distinctly from the architectural form of the chapel and the buildings around the village green.

Educational Trail and Visitor Information

The marked educational trail is about 10 kilometres long and follows field and forest tracks as well as paths through the town and countryside. Its approximate length and range of route types give you specific points to consider when planning a hike in Rynholec. The route includes both field and forest tracks and paths, so the trail is not limited to just one type of surface.

The Sobín site is freely accessible from the western side via the adjacent field. As conditions on site can change, it is best to check access before your visit.
