The Municipality of Kravarsko lies in the southern part of Zagreb County, on an important road connection between Zagreb, Velika Gorica, Pokupsko and Glina. The road connection situates the municipality within the region; the hill describes the location of the settlement.

Hills, summits and headwaters

The municipality lies in the central part of Vukomeričke Gorice, a hilly landscape between Turopolje and Pokuplje, characterised by vineyards and orchards. The two highest summits are called Žiridovka (255 metres) and Kravarščica (243 metres). Together with the 240-metre-high hill on which Kravarsko lies, these figures allow a comparison between the settlement and the municipality’s highest elevations. The municipal area also includes the headwaters of small rivers: Kravaščica belongs to the Kupa river basin, while Buna belongs to the Odra river basin. The landscape is thus described both by its ridges and by two different river basins.

Church and history

The parish church of Uzvišenja Svetog Križa stands in the centre of Kravarsko. It is first mentioned in 1334; the present church building was constructed in 1874. At a celebration of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Kravarsko, a procession featuring traditional costumes worn by KUD Kravarsko preceded the service.

Cultural heritage in the municipality

In Donji Hruševec, the Chapel of St John the Baptist is designated as cultural heritage of regional and local significance. In Podvornica, the discovery of Roman coins and the route of a Roman road are also designated as cultural heritage of regional and local significance. In Kravarsko, a traditional blacksmith’s workshop is designated as cultural heritage under preventive protection. The complex at Donje Selo 65 in Donji Hruševec comprises a group of traditional wooden buildings with associated courtyards and is protected under the spatial plan provisions. These different classifications cover a chapel, archaeological evidence, traditional crafts and a group of wooden buildings.

Cycling route linked to the town centre

The cycling route “Kroz najljepše predjele Kravarskog i Pokupskog” starts in Kravarsko, in the car park near the parish church of Uzvišenja Svetog Križa, and offers a view of the church in the centre. For your cycling plans, it therefore links a specific starting point with a landmark along the ride. The starting point and the view of the church are two different details: one tells you where the route begins, while the other tells you what you can see from it.
