Feldbach can be discovered in different ways: on a compact city walk, at the historic Tabor and through regional impressions of the market and garden. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish the short routes within town from activities with a broader regional focus. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests in culture, exercise or food.

Walks with different themes

The Feldbach city walk is 1.9 kilometers long, takes 30 minutes and is described as easy and accessible. It begins at the city’s distinctive landmark, said to be the world’s most colorful church tower. This makes it a clearly defined route that is easy to fit into a day with other sightseeing.

The Feldbach Raab walk focuses on stops along the way: it passes the Motorikpark, the leisure center, the stadium and the Feldbach art gallery. The two walks therefore have different emphases: one is described by its distance and duration, the other by its listed stops. The child-friendly walk ends at the large Motorikpark and playground in Sparkassenpark.

The Feldbach–Bad Gleichenberg railway hiking trail starts at the ÖBB railway station in Feldbach. You can return to the starting point by train or bus; check the timetables when planning. The route thus combines a hike with a return trip by train or bus, so you do not have to retrace the same route on foot.

Tabor and the town’s history

The Heimat.Museum in the Tabor offers a wide-ranging historical perspective: its 41 rooms house 12 exhibitions on life in southeastern Styria, from the Stone Age to the recent past. The Tabor itself was built in 1469 as a fortified refuge for the local population and is one of the best-preserved cultural monuments of its kind beyond Styria. The exhibitions take visitors through a long span of time, while the building itself offers a tangible way to explore Feldbach’s history.

The museum offers personalized guided tours and museum education programs for all age groups. For a deeper exploration of the exhibitions, visitors can choose between guided tours and programs with an educational focus.

In front of the town hall stands the Steinerne Metzen, a goblet-shaped dry measure for grain. It was used as a standard measure in large parts of eastern Styria. Its form and former function connect a visible feature of the townscape with a regional measuring practice.

The parish church of St. Leonhard also preserves traces of earlier construction: two-thirds of the main nave built in the 12th century remain, as do the foundations of the old tower. The Feldbach art gallery, established in 1999, offers a different connection to the past.

Regional routes and local delights

The route to Kalvarienberg-Alm leads to St. Anne’s Church; from there, you can enjoy a panoramic view across the entire Raab Valley. Fisswald is a special recreational area. Together with the walks in town, these offer different ways to spend time outdoors, from a route with named stops to a view across the valley.

The regional long-distance hiking network “In the Footsteps of the Volcanoes” also offers a wider scope for hiking enthusiasts. Figures published in 2023 list 49 circular routes and 612 kilometers of hiking trails. As the route network can change, check current route information when planning specific hikes. In Vulkanland, Rad-Guide Vulkanbike-Tours offers guided mountain bike, touring bike and road cycling trips.

Every Saturday, the farmers’ market on the main square offers fresh regional specialties. Fine handicrafts are also available to browse and buy. The market is a specific stop for visitors who want regional products and crafts to feature in their stay.

The Holunder-Wunderwelt is a show, experience and pleasure garden at the Christandl family’s fruit farm, dedicated to elderberries and aronia. During a guided tour, visitors learn what aronia looks like and how elderberry plants are pruned; the Christandl family also answers questions. The experience combines insights into these plants with a visit to a garden expressly designed for viewing, experiencing and enjoying.
