Gnas offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: historic landmarks in the market town and parish church, the local history museum, the Sandstöckl winegrower's house, as well as outdoor activities and regional wine. If you are looking for a hotel in Gnas, you can first consider which of these aspects of the town are most important for your trip.

History in the market town and parish church

The Marian column, a votive column dating from 1678, stands in the centre of the market town. It is protected as a historic monument by decree. Gnas Parish Church is also connected with the town's history: dedicated to Mary, Queen of Angels, it was first mentioned in a document in 1339. Its Neo-Gothic high altar dates from 1878 to 1880. Gnas has been known as a Marian pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages; the church's patronal feast is celebrated on 2 August.

Local history at the museum

The Gnas Local History Museum opened in its current form in 1996, in the attic of the municipal building. Its exhibits explore the development of the market system, guilds and the crafts associated with them. A particular focus is the history of clothing production in and around Gnas, from historic crafts to the present day. Museum visitors are asked to register at the municipal office.

The Sandstöckl and outdoor trails

The Sandstöckl winegrower's house is 400 years old. From 2010 to 2017, it was dismantled, expertly renovated and rebuilt close to its original location in Ebersdorf bei Gnas. It is considered the last authentic house of its kind in the entire Southeast Styria region. An apiary garden and a bee education trail surround the house. It also lies directly on the Kaskögerl Trail, a hiking route in the Thermen- und Vulkanland Steiermark region.

For an outing in the area, various route descriptions can help you find your way: the Höhenweg Raning starts at the sports grounds in Gnas and follows the Gnasbach, partly along the Agricultural Theme Trail. The Tatschkerland Tour starts at the Gnas youth and family guesthouse and leads via Lichtenberg and Ebersdorf to Krusdorf. You can also return to Gnas from Prädiberg stop along the regional railway. Check trail conditions before setting out, and check train connections if you plan to return by rail.

Other outdoor activities round out the options: “BEWEGT IM PARK” offers free exercise classes in Gnas, held in public parks or other open spaces and led by professional trainers. Programme details may vary by season. Gnas outdoor swimming pool is laid out on a terrace and is located on the eastern edge of town.

Wine tastings and traditional wine taverns

At Weinhof Rath, tastings of the “Sommerliebe wines” are available by appointment; the wines are also available directly from the winery. They include Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Souvignier Gris, Muscaris, Zweigelt, white Zweigelt, Chardonnay and Frizzante. Vines also grow around Weinhof Huber's award-winning traditional wine tavern. The wines are best enjoyed with a snack platter.
