Discover Auersbach: Planet Trail, Observatory and Brewery
Accommodation in Auersbach
Auersbach offers a variety of reasons to stay: brewery tours with tastings, insights into the Vulcano Experience World, astronomy and trails with themed stops. There is also a public observatory, a 5.9-kilometre Planet Trail and traditional Styrian wine taverns.
Brewery and Vulcano Experience World
Lava Bräu in Auersbach was founded in 2001 as a microbrewery in the Styrian Volcanic Region. A tour combines a visit to the brewery with a tasting of two organic beers and lasts about 45 minutes. Group tours are available Monday to Saturday by prior arrangement; no tours take place on Sundays or public holidays.
The Vulcano ham is the focus of the Vulcano Experience World in Auersbach. Covering over 1,000 m², the offering includes experiences centred on prosciutto, as well as culinary experiences, family outings and group activities. Guided tours of around 90 minutes offer insights into its origins, philosophy and craftsmanship; special experience stations, the Vulcano farm and the piglet group housing area are also part of the experience.
A Vulcano tour in Auersbach includes a visit to the animal housing. There, visitors can observe the Vulcano pigs being kept in conditions suited to their needs, including showering and feeding. A multimedia tour also presents the Vulcano ham’s entire life cycle. The guided tour and the multimedia tour therefore offer different ways to explore: one provides insights into craftsmanship and farming, while the other follows the product’s life cycle.
The guided experiences are easy to distinguish when planning your time: about 45 minutes at Lava Bräu compared with around 90 minutes for the Vulcano tours.
Observatory and Planet Trail
The public Vulkanland Observatory in Auersbach is located on RosenhĂĽgel, far enough from the lights of the town of Feldbach to allow for dark nights of observation. It was built in 2001 and has two domes measuring five and three metres, respectively, as well as two Meade telescopes measuring 16 and ten inches, respectively.
The Auersbach Planet Trail starts right next to the Vulkanland Observatory in Auersbach. The trail is 5.9 kilometres long in total and has ten stations: the Sun, eight planets and Pluto. The planets are represented by bronze reliefs with Braille. The trail thus combines a clearly defined route with a series of astronomical stations; its starting point at the observatory brings the two attractions together directly.
Trails and scenery
The AUERSBACH Himmel-Erden-Weg offers a different focus. It runs mostly along field and forest paths, offers a varied route, and has many interesting stations and beautiful views. In contrast to the Planet Trail, with its set length and astronomical stations, the focus here is on the route, stops and views.
Auersbach also offers an unspoilt cultural landscape. Various Buschenschänken, or traditional Styrian wine taverns, add to the range of visitor attractions. If you plan to visit a particular Buschenschank, check with the establishment before your visit.
