Discover Krumbach: Culture, Cycling Routes and Places to Visit
Accommodation in Krumbach
Krumbach offers plenty of reasons to visit: historic buildings and exhibitions, a family-friendly cycling route, and outdoor trails and destinations. The village museum’s show garden, the Easter market and the Eis-Greissler World also each offer something different. Which places you include may depend on whether you want to focus on culture, a bike ride or activities with children.
Churches, architectural history and Krumbach Castle
Sights include the Gothic parish church with its Baroque rectory and the Erasmus Church. The rectory and chaplaincy were built in the Rococo style in 1771/72. A visit to Krumbach can therefore also include a look at its different historic buildings.
Krumbach Castle is privately owned and is currently not open to the public. Its access status may change, so check before considering a visit. When planning your sightseeing, it is helpful to distinguish this castle from the publicly described attractions at the village museum.
Village museum: exhibition, buildings and garden
At the Krumbach village museum, the BĂĽrgerspital houses a permanent exhibition about the lives of the rural population in the Bucklige Welt region since the 16th century. The Tannbauer is considered a unique record of changes in rural life in the Eastern Alps over time. The exhibition and this historical context offer two different ways to explore the subject: you can learn about life in a particular region as well as changes in rural life across a wider area.
After an introductory film, visitors can explore the individual buildings on their own using digital media stations; MEDIA-GUIDES are also available. This allows you to plan your tour around the buildings and the information available at each one. In the show garden, flowering herb beds around the historic buildings provide habitats for bees, butterflies and many other garden inhabitants. The garden is open seasonally.
For many years, an Easter market has been held at the village museum, in the museum rooms and on the open-air grounds. The next edition is planned for 2027; check the dates before travelling. Around 40 exhibitors offer traditional handicrafts and regional specialities, although the number of exhibitors may vary from one edition to the next. In 2026, the Museums-Dorfheuriger will offer hot specialities as well as cider and wine from its own production. Dates and offerings may change.
Cycling, hiking and other excursions
The Zöbernbach cycle route connects Krumbach, Bad Schönau and Kirchschlag and forms part of the Panorama and Fortified Churches routes. It follows the Zöbernbach stream, away from the main road. The route is considered family-friendly and very suitable for children. If you are looking for a short walk rather than a bike ride, the Fairy Trail is another option: it passes through the Fairy Forest and is described as a leisurely walk for families and children.
A section of the Fairy Trail, about one kilometre long, features lovingly crafted decorations and handmade natural artworks. This length refers to that section. Fishing is possible from several jetties and grassy spots at the landscape lake. The Steinkreis viewpoint can be reached from Krumbach via the regional route. Its stone circle has a diameter of six metres and was arranged by people.
Families visiting with children may also want to consider the Eis-Greissler World. It has an adventure park with a water playground. Visitors can sample new ice cream creations by Eis-Greissler in an experimental kitchen. Krumbach therefore offers a variety of activities: cycling and hiking, fishing, nature watching in the show garden, and attractions centred on the museum and ice cream.
