Rohr Im Gebirge: Hiking, Charcoal Burning and Winter
Accommodation in Rohr Im Gebirge
Rohr Im Gebirge lies at an altitude of 692 m and is framed by the mountains of the Alpine foothills: Schneeberg, Rax, Unterberg and Jochart. There are various themes to choose from for your stay: forest and water trails, a marked trail to the summit of Jochart, historic pilgrimage routes and winter activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Rohr Im Gebirge, the main focus of your trip can help guide your choice. The activities differ in their landscapes, destinations and seasonal appeal.
Hiking trails through forest, alongside water and to the summit
The themed trail “Workshop, Forest and Water” leads through the forests around Rohr Im Gebirge and repeatedly follows streams. Forest and water are therefore both part of the route. A different marked hiking trail leads to Jochart: it starts at a public car park in Rohr Im Gebirge, first goes to Schacherkreuz and then continues to the summit. If you are looking for a clear summit destination, Jochart is the endpoint of this route; the themed trail focuses on the forests and streams along the way.
The Westschleife starts in the centre of Rohr Im Gebirge and leads through the winter landscape, past an observation tower, to Krumbach and back again. Its loop distinguishes it from the trail to the summit: Krumbach is the destination, after which the route returns. The 5.5 km Kneipp hiking trail opened in Rohr Im Gebirge in 1988. At its starting point is the Ulrichsbrunnen, where refreshing arm baths are available.
Charcoal burning and pilgrimage routes
With six charcoal-burning businesses currently operating, Rohr Im Gebirge is a regional centre of Austrian charcoal production. Alongside its scenic trails, charcoal burning is therefore also part of the area's cultural identity. The pilgrimage routes place Rohr Im Gebirge within historic connections: the Via Sacra follows historic pilgrimage routes from Vienna to Mariazell and continues from Rohr Im Gebirge to Kalte Kuchl. The Wiener Wallfahrerweg runs via Perchtoldsdorf or Wien-Rodaun, Mayerling and Kaumberg to Rohr Im Gebirge, then via St. Aegyd am Neuwalde to Mariazell. For the Via Sacra, the continuation to Kalte Kuchl is the area's particular connection; on the Wiener Wallfahrerweg, Rohr lies between Kaumberg and St. Aegyd am Neuwalde.
