Discover Simonhöhe
Accommodation in Simonhöhe
Simonhöhe is part of the Gurktal Alps and the Nock Mountains. Hocheck is one of Simonhöhe’s two peaks and reaches an elevation of 1,338 m. When planning your stay, you can weigh up different priorities: hikes vary in length and difficulty, while bike activities also differ in their technical requirements. Seasonal rides and winter activities are available too.
Hiking: compare route length and difficulty
The “1000-jährige Linde - Simale” route is an easy hike covering 3.40 km. The Paulsberg circular trail is also rated easy and measures 4.97 km. This gives you two easy hikes of different lengths to choose from. The Zur Schaumühle - Gall circular trail is longer at 7.78 km and is rated moderate. The information on length and difficulty helps you compare the routes using two different criteria.
Another option is the Hoch-Sankt-Paul-Weg: after passing through Hoch St. Paul, it continues to the Simonhöhe ski area. Route details can change, so check them before setting off.
Bike trails and seasonal rides
Simon's Flowtrail is 2.2 km long and rated easy; basic trail-riding skills are required. When planning, take both the rating and this technical requirement into account. The T02 “Jumping Simon” bike trail is 0.6 km long, has 65 metres of elevation gain and is rated moderate. It also requires good trail-riding and jumping skills. By comparison, Jumping Simon is considerably shorter than the Flowtrail, but has a higher difficulty rating and more advanced technical requirements. Access to Jumping Simon is seasonal.
Simon's children’s and practice area includes three trails for children and beginners, as well as a small Mini Kids jumpline; these facilities also operate seasonally. Since 2022, the Bärentallift has transported mountain bikers and their bikes to the trails’ starting point at the Hocheck summit. The lift operates seasonally.
Simonhöhe’s mountain carts offer two marked downhill routes and reach a top speed of around 30 km/h. They are suitable for children aged 10 and over, adults and active seniors. The activity is seasonal; check the age and safety requirements for the relevant period. Visitors can explore the alpine landscape around Simonhöhe in Waldbuggies, fully electric golf carts. Rentals are also seasonal.
Winter: slopes, beginner facilities and ski touring
The Simonhöhe family ski area has four blue slopes rated easy and four red slopes rated intermediate. It also has a difficult steep slope marked red and black, as well as a children’s and practice area. Individual facilities may change, so check the latest information about the ski area before your visit.
At Pauli’s Bärenland, children learn to ski through play and with professional instruction. A magic carpet approximately 100 m long complements the beginner facilities. Simonhöhe is also recommended for ski tourers looking for relaxing full- and half-day tours. Seasonal snow conditions should be taken into account.
Culture in the surrounding area
The nearby Mithras rock is located above Lake Urban. An image of the sun god surrounded by rays is carved into the rock, and a seating area provides a place to view it. This cultural point of interest adds another dimension to the sporting activities during your stay.
If you are looking for a hotel for a stay on Simonhöhe, your preferred activities can help you choose when to travel. Snow conditions matter for ski touring, while seasonal operating conditions apply to activities such as the Bärentallift and Waldbuggy rentals.
