Dielsdorf combines equestrian sports with a distinctive church, hiking trails and events such as the Christmas market. When looking for a hotel for your trip, it helps to start by asking what will shape your stay: a race day, a riding activity, a hike or a visit during Advent. The local features below give you a concrete starting point for comparing these priorities.

Horse racing track and getting there

The Zurich-Dielsdorf horse racing track hosts flat and harness races for spectators, as well as international competitions. From Zürich HB, you can reach the racecourse in 23 minutes on the S15. From Dielsdorf station, it is a ten-minute walk to the racecourse. A large car park is available right by the venue. If you are planning a visit, you can check the current timetables and race days.

Riding and equestrian sports

RGO Dielsdorf offers riding lessons for all ages and ability levels, from beginners to advanced show jumpers and dressage riders. Confident riders can join RGO group rides lasting from one to several hours. The Baholz Equestrian Centre offers training courses in various disciplines for riders and horses.

The Zurich-Dielsdorf Training Centre includes racing stables where racehorses train every day. Sport stables also train and prepare horses here in all FEI disciplines. The training centre was the first permanent facility of its kind in Switzerland. Dielsdorf’s equestrian sports scene therefore includes both activities for riders and specialised training operations.

Trails, landscape and architecture

Dielsdorf lies at the foot of the Lägern; natural landscapes can also be found in the immediate vicinity. The “Pässe: Mötschen” route starts at Dielsdorf station and climbs towards Regensberg. It passes through the old village centre, by hedges and vineyards, and is a natural-surface hike with minimal hard-surface sections. This provides a specific walking route with a starting point in the village and clearly described trail features.

The 2021 cantonal inventory recognises the Catholic Church of St. Paul as an important witness to the social, ecclesiastical and architectural history of the post-war period. Its large gabled roofs and monumental entrance façade make it an impressive landmark in Dielsdorf. The church is part of Justus Dahinden’s early work and already displays his characteristic architectural vocabulary.

Advent season and Erlen sports facility

For many families and visitors from the region, the Dielsdorf Christmas market is an established part of the Advent season. Highlights include a family programme, music and a market atmosphere. Jungschar Dielsdorf continues the popular candle-making tradition there. Some programme details may vary; if you are coming for a particular activity, check the specific dates and programme.

The Erlen sports facility in Dielsdorf includes an ice rink. In 1973, the municipalities of Niederhasli, Dielsdorf and Steinmaur established Sportanlage Erlen AG, based in Dielsdorf. Its purpose is to operate the sports and leisure park for these municipalities.
