Discover Römerswil
Accommodation in Römerswil
Römerswil can be explored through a range of interests: cycling, nature, hiking, winter sports and culture each offer their own focus. When planning your trip, it is worth starting with the activity that suits you best. Cycling routes, for example, differ in length and stages, while snow conditions are decisive for cross-country skiing. The parish church and the Lourdes Grotto add specific cultural and religious sites to the landscape and route themes.
Landscape and Nature at Lake Baldegg
Römerswil, Hildisrieden and Rain lie on the gentle southern slope of the Erlosen hills. Lake Baldegg is an important nature conservation area in the canton of Lucerne: it is one of the canton’s largest protected areas. Around 50 percent of the lake’s longitudinal shoreline is available to the public for active leisure and recreation. Fishing is also possible at the lake; check the local rules before fishing.
Another natural highlight is Vogelmoos, a biotope created around 30 years ago.
Cycling Routes with Different Route Profiles
For a loop around Lake Baldegg, the family route on the Seetal cycling map goes around the lake. The map contains three routes in total, with different levels of difficulty. As route information can change, check the current version of the map before setting out.
The Heart Route is a Swiss cycling route for e-bikes and is fully signposted. The Heart Loop Seetal offers two day stages covering 117 kilometres away from traffic. Its 51-kilometre eastern branch runs over the Lindenberg and offers views of Lake Baldegg, Lake Hallwil and the Alpine panorama. The 51-kilometre eastern branch is shorter than the 117-kilometre Heart Loop, which comprises two day stages.
Hiking and Cross-Country Skiing
The Hitzkirch–Herlisberg–Römerswil–Hochdorf hike is 14.59 kilometres long and rated easy. After Herlisberg, the route passes through the forest to Römerswil. A map of the hiking trails is also available for Römerswil. As route details can change, it is advisable to check the information again before your hike.
In winter, the panoramic cross-country ski trail between Herlisberg and Römerswil offers both classic cross-country skiing and skating, provided there is enough snow. From the car park, the trailhead at Römerswil is a ten-minute walk away. Planning this activity therefore differs from planning the hikes and cycling routes described above: the trail depends on sufficient snow cover. Access information can change seasonally; check the details before setting out.
Parish Church and Lourdes Grotto
Römerswil’s present-day parish church was built in the Neo-Romanesque style and consecrated in 1882. Inside, a coffered, painted wooden ceiling featuring a central image of the Ascension of Christ stands out as a specific decorative feature. The church’s construction period and design give it a distinct cultural and historical focus, clearly different from the nature and route themes.
The Lourdes Grotto lies below the parish church and can be reached by a flight of steps. It has been a place for quiet prayer since 1932. The church and grotto thus differ in their function and design: the Neo-Romanesque church with its painted wooden ceiling is complemented by another religious site, the grotto, whose traditional role is as a place for quiet prayer.
Whether your trip should focus on longer cycling routes, a hike, a snow-dependent ski trail or the church sites is a decision you can make based on these different highlights.
