Överlida brings together several different themes to consider when planning a trip: lakes and swimming spots, cycling options, and architectural and industrial history. If you choose a destination based on your interests, it is worth considering which of these aspects you want to shape your stay. By the water, a sandy beach, bathing facilities and fishing opportunities take centre stage; for cycling, a former railway line and mountain biking options offer different experiences. The local history also provides concrete points to consider when making your decision.

Lakes, swimming spots and fishing

The Överlida FVO comprises five lakes: Stora Hallången, Lilla Hallången, Mjöasjön, Bredasjön and Stora Djupasjön. The FVO also includes two swimming spots, Näset and Vita Sand. Näset, on Stora Hallången, is a sandy beach surrounded by forest. It has a bathing jetty, a diving tower, benches and a barbecue area. Vita Sand is easier to reach by boat. At Näset, the beach and facilities define the swimming spot; Vita Sand stands out for being easier to reach by boat. When fishing in the Överlida FVO, you can catch species including perch, pike, Blåsik and eel. This means that planning a day by the water can take into account both swimming spots with different features and specific fish species.

Cycling routes and mountain biking

The Pyttebanan was formerly a railway line between Limmared and Falkenberg and is now being restored as a cycling route; some sections can be cycled. The section between Överlida and Holsljunga is 8 km long and passes the excursion destination Gräne Gruva. Large parts of the Pyttebanan are car-free. Överlida has a downhill track and a skills track for mountain bikes. Both are maintained by volunteers and can be used free of charge. The Näsetrundan has been extended by 800 metres and fitted with lighting. The options offer different experiences: the Pyttebanan focuses on the former railway line and sections that can be cycled, while the two tracks are specifically for mountain biking. The measurements also refer to different things: the 8 km is the length of the Pyttebanan section, while the 800 metres is the extension of the Näsetrundan.

Church and local history

Överlida kyrka was built in 1962–63. It was designed by Nils Halla, who was from the local area. Eva Spångberg carved the altarpiece in the chancel in 1993. The building and the artwork thus represent two different points in time: the construction of the church and the later creation of the altarpiece.

On Halla, the Överlida Hembygdsmuseum is housed in an old weaving mill dating from the beginning of the 20th century. It is run by the Överlida Hembygdsförening. At the museum, you can trace the area’s industrial development through ÖIK’s 100-year history. The church and the museum focus on different aspects of local history: the church highlights its construction and carved altarpiece, while the museum focuses on the weaving mill building and industrial history. If you would also like to base your choice of destination on cultural history, you can distinguish between architecture and religious art on the one hand, and industrial history on the other.
