Accommodation in Sexdrega
Sexdrega combines ecclesiastical heritage and historical musical traditions with nearby waterside destinations. The activity loops also vary clearly in length: Ängavarvet is 1.0 km, while the illuminated Elljusspår Sexdrega running trail is 2.5 km. If you’re looking for a hotel in Sexdrega, these cultural and landscape features offer concrete points of reference for choosing a destination that suits your interests.
River, swimming area and fishing area
Immediately north of Sexdrega, the Buttorps forsar nature reserve lies along the Ätran River. It covers around 1,700 metres of the river, including the banks. South of the town is the Hagalundssjön swimming area, accessible by road towards Ringestena/Roasjö. These waterside destinations therefore differ in both location and function: one is a nature reserve along the river, the other a swimming area.
The Buttorp-Ljungafors fishing area is also nearby, between Sexdrega and Svenljunga. It offers 15 km of flowing waters in the scenic Ätran Valley. The east side is easy to reach via Route 154 between Sexdrega and Svenljunga, and the west side via the road between Sexdrega and Ringestena. The size figures refer to different stretches of water: Buttorps forsar covers around 1,700 metres of river, including the banks, while Buttorp-Ljungafors offers 15 km of flowing waters.
The three destinations clearly differ in what they offer: a nature reserve along the river, a swimming area, and a fishing area with flowing waters. Their locations also differ: Buttorps forsar is north of the town, Hagalundssjön is south, and Buttorp-Ljungafors is between Sexdrega and Svenljunga.
Comparing activity loops
The illuminated Elljusspår Sexdrega running trail is 2.5 km long and starts at the Idrottsplatsen sports ground. Ängavarvet at Ängagärdet is a 1.0 km activity loop and part of the exercise circuit there. At 1.0 km, Ängavarvet is the shorter route. The Elljusspår’s lighting and starting point are useful landmarks; Ängavarvet can be understood through its connection to the exercise circuit. This makes it possible to compare both their lengths and their respective connections to the area.
Church, music and local history
The baptismal font in Sexdrega Church dates from the 12th century and is attributed to Mäster Andreas. The date refers to the font; the connection to Mäster Andreas remains an attribution. This makes a specific ecclesiastical object of medieval date the focus.
The Sexdregasamlingen is a collection of handwritten fiddlers’ books and sheet music from Västergötland, compiled in the second half of the 18th century. Chronologically, it belongs to a considerably later period than the 12th-century baptismal font. Its musical traditions complement the ecclesiastical object: here, handwritten books and sheet music shape the cultural connection.
Local product history also has a specific connection to the area: sparkling punch was made as a specialty in Sexdrega. This aspect of production adds another theme in local history alongside the ecclesiastical and musical traditions.
