Discover Östra Frölunda
Accommodation in Östra Frölunda
There are different ways to get to know Östra Frölunda: the church stands high above the western bank of the Ätran and has its own architectural and artistic history; Kinnahus preserves traces of a fortification; and named trails connect several places. When planning a stay, it helps to distinguish between historical sites, longer hiking routes and activities on the water.
Church, Kinnahus and local history
The present-day church in Östra Frölunda was built in 1826 by master builder Per Eriksson from Sandhult. The ceiling painting in the chancel was added later: Einar Forseth created it during a renovation in the 1930s. The church’s location, architectural history and interior art offer different points of interest for a visit.
Kinnahus was built to monitor the historic route along the Ätran Valley, which was called “ridhväg.” Three ramparts and ditches remain at the visible fortification. They were probably filled with water while the fortification was in use. If you visit Kinnahus, park in the designated lot.
Lerbäcksbyn farm also offers a historical perspective: at this 19th-century farm, you can experience the history of the Sjuhärad merchant farms. Feldspar and quartz were mined at Skillnabo Gruva in the early 20th century. Beside the mine’s water-filled excavation, there is a raft, a picnic table, a mining cart and a barbecue area. The church, farm and mine thus represent different aspects of architectural, farming and industrial history.

The 50-kilometer Kurirleden begins at Örestens fästning fortress near Örby and ends at Kinnahus in Östra Frölunda. When planning the Kurirleden, it is also important to note the trail conditions: some sections are poorly maintained and inadequately marked. Check the latest information about the trail before setting out. Two other tours each have a specific landmark: Kindaholmsturen begins at the church in Östra Frölunda. Holsljungaturen crosses the Ätran as it heads into Östra Frölunda.
