Lysekil combines a granite coast, city history and experiences by the sea. The options range from nature and city walks to museums, guided tours and themed activities. This makes it easy to explore Lysekil based on specific interests without limiting your stay to a single theme.

Granite Landscapes and Nature Trails

Stångehuvud is the southernmost extension of the Bohuslän granite region. Smooth, rounded rock surfaces and clearly visible glacial striations shape the landscape. Trails wind through the area, passing through narrow rock crevices and rock formations resembling caves. The rocks are therefore not just a feature of the landscape; you will also encounter them along the trails. The western cliff coast offers good opportunities for swimming and recreational fishing. If you want to combine natural features with activities by the water, Stångehuvud offers both as distinct aspects of the area.

The Kuststigen stage from Lysekil to Skal offers a direct connection between the town and the nature area: it starts in central Lysekil, passes Havets Hus and reaches StĂĄngehuvud Nature Reserve. The route can thus be considered in terms of its course and destination. The Lysekils stadspromenader, by contrast, offer four signposted routes ranging from 2 to 5.5 km. Depending on whether distance or a specific destination matters more to you, these two walking options can offer different points of reference for your planning.

City Walks and History

Gamlestan is Lysekil’s original district and includes several well-preserved, charming neighborhoods that are ideal for walking. One city walk runs from Rosvikstorg through Kungsgatan, Gamlestan, Norra Hamnen and Ålevik. Its specified route makes this walk particularly appealing if you would like to connect several parts of the town on foot. Gamlestan also offers a historical perspective: the original district and its preserved neighborhoods are part of the walk, along with the individual stops on the route.

Vikarvet also brings together historic buildings and objects with several themes from local history. The grounds feature furnished fishermen’s cottages and boathouses from the early 19th century, as well as the fishing boat Frifararen. Vikarvet Museum presents the history of the stone and canning industries, fishing and the seaside resort. You can therefore complement a walk through Gamlestan with a museum visit, or focus specifically on the historical themes and objects on the Vikarvet grounds.

Marine Life and Activities

There are several ways to explore marine themes around Havets Hus. Adventure Mini Golf is located outside Havets Hus and depicts life in the West Sea, as well as in the Kattegat and Skagerrak. It combines a fun round of golf with information and a quiz about the West Sea. Havets Hus also offers a 60-minute guided tour of the entire complex. If you would like to include the tour in your plans, check the latest information in advance.

The Havets Hus seal safari departs from the Havets Hus pier. Check the latest information about the safari if you plan to use this specific departure point during your stay. Lysekils Ostron & Musslor offers a different perspective on the sea. The tour starts in Norra Hamnen and shows how mussels are farmed and harvested. You can choose between an activity focused on seals, marine themes presented in a fun way, and an insight into mussel farming and harvesting. Check the tour’s booking options in advance.
