Discover Fiskebäckskil
Accommodation in Fiskebäckskil
Fiskebäckskil combines the history of a seafaring village with walking routes and the course of the Kuststigen. If you are looking for a hotel here, it is worth first considering what you want to focus your stay on: historic buildings, routes around the village or a hiking stage. Gåsevik and the passenger ferry to Lysekil also offer practical points to consider when planning.
Harbour, houses and church
Fiskebäckskil is a seafaring village with well-preserved buildings dating from around 1900. The fishing harbour was established in the 16th century on the basis of the lucrative herring trade. Fornstugan, the old farmhouse, is the village’s oldest building and is typical of local 17th-century homes. The former herring trade and traditional residential buildings thus stand side by side as distinct historical points of reference.
Fiskebäckskil Church also has a long history: it was built in 1772, replacing an earlier wooden church from the 16th century. The ceiling and wall paintings were created by church painter Joachim Gotthard Reimers in 1783. The church is also frequently used for musical events. If attending a concert is important to your trip, check the dates in advance.
The house of artist Carl Wilhelmson, a National Romantic villa, offers a different architectural perspective. Together with Fornstugan, the church and the buildings dating from around 1900, it broadens the view beyond the harbour’s history. Fiskebäckskil thus offers a way to distinguish between different architectural and historical periods, rather than viewing the village through just one attraction.
Walks and the Kuststigen
There are many walking routes among the captains’ villas and boathouses. A walk along Kaptensgatan and along Fiskebäckskil’s picturesque paths and stairways passes through different parts of the village; along the way, you can discover aspects of its history. The buildings and paths together provide a setting for a walk, without requiring you to plan a specific stage length.
The Kuststigen offers a different way to experience the area: the hiking trail runs across Skaftö and passes through Fiskebäckskil. The Dragsmark–Fiskebäckskil section runs through the old village to a bathing spot at the end of the stage. The village paths and the named stage therefore have different focuses: the former highlight routes among villas and boathouses, while the latter is a trail section ending at a bathing spot.
Nature and connections to Lysekil
The Gåsevik nature reserve is about 800 metres from Fiskebäckskil and is botanically rich. It adds a nature-focused dimension to the village’s history and walking routes. Check the current access rules for the reserve before visiting.
The Carl Wilhelmson passenger ferry runs daily, year-round, between Fiskebäckskil and Lysekil. If Lysekil is part of your travel plans, you can include the connection in your planning; check the timetable separately.
If you are looking for a hotel in Fiskebäckskil, first decide which activity or aspect of the village you want your stay to focus on. Then compare the location of a specific hotel with your plans.
