Brodalen combines lush vegetation and dramatic cliffs and mountains with a rural character shaped by old farmsteads and agriculture. The sea is nearby, and there are opportunities to swim in salt water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Brodalen, this mix can help guide your choice: the landscape, cultural history and climbing offer different focal points for your stay.

Landscape, Sea and Trails

Stage 16, “Brodalen–Nordens Ark,” starts in Brodalen and heads west towards Åbyfjorden. It passes over Sötorpsberget and offers views of the sea and Åbyfjord. Compared with the opportunities to swim in salt water, this route focuses on the trail over Sötorpsberget and its views. Brodalen is also known for its enormous boulders. The surrounding area thus brings together different aspects of the landscape: the nearby sea, the rural farmsteads and a stage with mountain and fjord views.

Cultural Trails and Bro kyrka

The cultural trails in Brodalen, upgraded in 2025, feature rock carvings, Iron Age graves and the ruins of a medieval defensive tower. Bro kyrka adds to this cultural heritage. It is centrally located in Brodalen and has medieval origins. Its medieval features include the north nave wall and the west gable. The church’s paintings were created by Christian von Schönfeldt in 1709. The nave is the elongated main part of a church; the west gable is at its western end. At Bro kyrka, you can therefore distinguish between medieval building fabric and paintings from a later century.

Bouldering in Brodalen

Bro Boulder is an indoor climbing facility in Brodalen, with around 200 m² of bouldering walls at different angles. The facility also has a MoonBoard bouldering wall with LED lighting and a training area for grip-strength exercises. It therefore includes both bouldering walls with varying angles and an area for targeted grip-strength training. Access rules may change, and the facilities may also vary. Getting Around and Planning Your Trip

Brodalen has a bus stop called Brodalen. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel day. The car park at Brodalens kyrka is designated for the Norra stigen cultural trail; visitors drive to the church and park there. The bus stop and the car park are separate points of reference: one is for bus travel, while the other is the car park specified for the cultural trail.

When choosing a hotel, you can first consider what you want your stay to focus on. Stage 16 offers a concrete connection to mountain scenery and fjord views; the cultural trails and Bro kyrka offer various historical landmarks; and Bro Boulder offers indoor bouldering. These differences can help you plan your trip around your interests, without treating landscape, cultural heritage and climbing as one and the same experience.
