Discover Seglora: Hiking Trails, Lakes and Culture
Accommodation in Seglora
Seglora combines hiking trails with cultural and historical points of interest and activities on the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Seglora, the range of trail lengths and themes can help you choose a destination that suits your interests: perhaps a loop around a lake, the history of the church village or the landscape.
Hiking Trails and Distances
The approximately 1.6-kilometre Seglora–Skärsjön hiking loop follows small forest paths around Lake Skärsjön, east of Seglora, and is fairly flat. The green Viskadalen hiking trail follows gravel paths near Viskadalens folk high school in Seglora and is also fairly flat. The main differences between these two route descriptions are the surface and the point of reference: forest paths by the lake versus gravel paths near the folk high school.
The Seglora–Hunghults gamla kyrkväg hiking trail is 6.5 kilometres long. This makes it the longer of the two routes with a stated distance; the Skärsjön loop is the shorter route. Parking is available at Seglora Church, where the Kulturleden hike begins and ends. Check the parking conditions before you travel.
Church and Architectural History
Seglora Church stands 300 metres northeast of the site of the old church. The historical continuity of the church and its village dates back to the Middle Ages. This means that the site brings together a specific distance between two church locations and the long history of the village.
Lundastugan, one of the few surviving ridge-pole cottages in the area, stands at Seglora Hembygdsgården. The parsonage, a valuable historic building probably built in 1793, is also on the grounds. The two buildings offer different points of interest for anyone interested in traditional building styles and the history of local buildings.
Local Heritage Society and Crafts
The Seglora local heritage society’s recurring events include a Midsummer celebration with dancing and games around the Midsummer pole. If you’d like to include the celebration in your travel plans, check the event dates before your trip. The society also organises guided walks around the area to various destinations.
Hantverkshörnan at Seglora Hembygdsgården sells, among other things, rag rugs and table runners made in the weaving workshop. The connection to the workshop gives a clear sense of where these handicrafts come from and sets them apart from generic souvenirs.
Lakes, Nature and Activities on the Water
Seglora has several lakes, the largest of which is Stora Hålsjön. The Viskan, which winds through Seglora, is also a good choice for a canoe trip. Seglora also has two crags for climbing. Alongside hiking, these offer other outdoor activities to consider when planning your trip, depending on your interests.
Tranhult Nature Reserve lies between Viskafors and Seglora, not far from Viskadalens folk high school. The reserve has a car park and an information board. Bua strand has a municipal bathing jetty; if you plan to use it, check its current condition in advance.
When deciding where to travel, you can compare the options by their specific features: hiking distance and trail surface, architectural history around the church and local heritage museum, and lakes and activities on the water. This can help you decide whether Seglora is the right fit for the themes that matter to you during your stay.
