Discover Borås
Accommodation in Borås
When looking for a hotel in Borås, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay. Nature and hiking sit alongside contemporary art, textiles and science. The differences between the trails and attractions can help you plan your trip around your interests.
Nature, views and hiking trails
Rya Åsar is a municipal nature reserve established in 2001. From the Rya klint viewpoint, you can see far across Borås. This lets you include a designated natural area and a specifically named viewpoint as distinct highlights.
For hikes, you can compare trail length, difficulty and scenery. Hestra Ekås is nine kilometres long, of moderate difficulty, and passes through spruce forests and gently rolling terrain. By contrast, Rya Åsar Rävstigen is 800 metres long, a discovery trail for children, and has various play features along the route. This gives you a choice between a longer, moderately difficult route with a described landscape and a short trail with play features.
The section of Sjuhäradsleden that runs through Borås is 47 kilometres long; the entire trail covers 140 kilometres and is part of the European long-distance path E1. These figures distinguish the section through Borås from the full trail. Sjuhäradsrundan runs between Borås, Ulricehamn, Tranemo and Svenljunga. The similarly named routes therefore have different points of reference: for Sjuhäradsleden, the section and total lengths are given, while Sjuhäradsrundan is described by its four towns.
Borås's outdoor maps show hiking trails, cycling routes, bathing spots and other areas for outdoor activities. They are also useful if your plans go beyond hiking and you want to include cycling routes or bathing spots.
Art, textiles and science
Borås Konstmuseum presents exhibitions of national and international contemporary art. The city's public art collection includes more than a hundred sculptures, installations and murals in Borås, all within a radius of just under 1.5 kilometres. The museum offers guided tours of Borås's public art. Held every two years since it began in 2008, the international art biennial Borås Art Biennial was previously called Borås Internationella Skulpturbiennal.
At Textilmuseet, the exhibition Textil Kraft illustrates the process from fibre to finished fabric; several textile machines are shown in operation. In addition, the DIY area provides tools and materials free of charge for visitors' sewing projects. This means that at the museum you can learn about the manufacturing process through the machines and use tools and materials for your own sewing project.
Borås Djurpark is home to around 300 animals from 42 different species. The zoo is also a centre for species conservation, biodiversity and research. So, alongside the animal species, the zoo also has roles in conservation and research.
Navet is a science centre where visitors can learn about science and technology through hands-on exploration. It is centrally located in Borås, near a bus stop and the railway station. This provides a specific point of reference if you include Navet in your travel plans.
