In Höör, the choice of trails ranges from the illuminated 750-metre Backaslingan to the 16-kilometre Pilgrimsleden. There are also historic buildings, museums and events. For planning, trail length and character offer different points of reference: some trails are short fitness loops, while others pass through forests or combine their route with local history.

Hiking and trails around Höör

Brottets bana is about three kilometres long and rated easy to moderate. The trail runs between Höörs Mölla and Stanstorps stenbrott in Stenskogen. At selected points, information boards explain the history of the surrounding area. The sandstone quarrying in Stenskogen is also worth seeing: sandstone has been extracted there since the 12th century to make building stone and millstones.

If you are looking for a marked loop, the five-kilometre Fogdarödsslingan in Fogdarödsskogen is suitable for walking and running. Frostavallen offers five hiking loops of varying lengths and difficulty levels. The Hjärtslingan is considerably longer, at 11.11 kilometres; it passes through deciduous and coniferous forest, alongside babbling streams and past ponds. Onsvalakällan is along the way, with a shelter and toilet.

The shorter trail descriptions are also easy to compare: Backaslingan is an illuminated fitness loop near Villa Backa. To the north, it connects to the shared-use walking and cycling path by the Kvarnbäck boules courts; to the south, it connects to Hälsans stig and Skåneleden. The Pilgrimsleden starts at Frihetens kapell at Stiftsgården Åkersberg in Höör. The Skåneleden sections SL2 and SL3 run parallel through the centre, and both pass the railway station.

For a different kind of activity, the nearby Orup mountain-bike area has four trails ranging from 800 metres to 6.4 kilometres. The Höör municipality area also offers mountain-bike trails, former railway embankments and the long-distance Sverigeleden cycling route. Orups strövområde combines marked forest loops with the former sanatorium, historic burial mounds and abandoned farmsteads.

Churches, museums and culture

In the centre of Höör, Kulturhuset Anders is a venue for concerts, theatre, dance, art exhibitions and cinema. It hosts the annual Höörs sommaropera and Kulturkvartersdagen. Höörs konsthall, located in the Kulturhuset, holds around ten exhibitions a year. Culture enthusiasts can enjoy both an ongoing exhibition programme and recurring events.

Höörs kyrka combines architectural history with a special detail: Mårten Stenmästare built it in the second half of the 12th century using stone from Höörs stenskog, just as he did Lund Cathedral. The apse, chancel and nave of the medieval church have been preserved. The original baptismal font bears the runic inscription “Martin mik giarde”.

The museums also tell different chapters of local history. Höörs skolmuseum is housed in a fieldstone building from the 1830s that was Höör’s first school. Fogdaröds museum tells the history of Fogdaröd through key dates, beginning in 1907; it is open to individual visitors and groups. Minnenas museum is a family museum featuring toys, household items, cars and motorcycles.

Nature and excursions in the surrounding area

There are 18 nature reserves in Höör municipality, often with hiking loops and picnic areas. Nearby, a 3.7-kilometre walking loop passes through Västra Bosjöklosterhalvön Nature Reserve and partly along Västra Ringsjön. Bosjökloster is also nearby, on a peninsula in Ringsjön. There, 900 years of history meet a park, gardens and exhibitions; there are also animal enclosures, playgrounds and rowing boats on the lake.

The municipality maintains six public bathing areas in Höör municipality during the bathing season, from 1 June to 31 August. For food, Bosjökloster serves smørrebrød and lunch dishes made from scratch, using a large proportion of ingredients from local producers. In Höör, Höörs Gästis serves breakfast, daily specials and à la carte dishes, following a modern Swedish home-cooking philosophy; check the details before your visit.
