There are several ways to plan a stay in Tjörnarp: marked hiking trails, natural areas, activities by the lake and traces of local history. The trails can be compared by length and route; there is also a bathing area and places connected with brickworks and former church sites. This can help you decide which themes suit your travel plans.

Hiking: Compare Routes and Distances

The red-marked Tjörnarpssjön runt hiking loop is 5.8 kilometres long. Most of it runs outside the Prästabonnaskogen nature reserve. The green-marked Bokskogsrundan is shorter, at three kilometres, and partly lies outside the same protected area. Both loops therefore offer a concrete way to compare trail lengths and routes in relation to the area. The blue-marked Tegelbruksrundan is 4.7 kilometres in total; part of the trail runs through the Tegeldammarna-Lergravarna nature reserve.

Another route runs three kilometres north from Prästabonnaskogen to Skåneleden SL2, Stage 6, which runs north–south. Unlike the circular trails mentioned above, it connects the protected area with the long-distance trail. Tjörnarp’s hiking trails are accessible by Pågatåg. This is a useful point of reference when considering your journey and planned hikes together.

Natural Areas and Waters

Prästabonnaskogen lies between Lake Tjörnarpssjön, the church and Tjörnarp station. In the western part of the protected area, below Tjörnarps kyrka, there is a constructed wetland with a viewing platform. The landscape, wetland and viewpoint are therefore among the specific nature features you can expect to find when visiting this area.

The municipal Tegeldammarna-Lergravarna nature reserve is in Höör Municipality and includes a former clay pit that once belonged to Gunnarps bruk. Most of the reserve consists of damp woodland with a high proportion of deadwood. Its description also highlights a rich variety of birds and insects. Nature here therefore differs from the wetland at Prästabonnaskogen: woodland, deadwood and wildlife are the main features.

There are fishing jetties on Lake Tjörnarpssjön. You can rent three rowboats from the fishing-permit sellers based in Tjörnarp. The lake’s bathing area is within walking distance of Tjörnarp station. It has bathing piers, rescue equipment, a toilet, waste disposal and an information board that includes details about bathing water quality. Swimming and fishing are therefore two different ways to include the lake in your day’s plans.

Brickworks and Local History

Gunnarps tegelbruk is a site open to visitors, with information boards about the brickworks. Its restored ring kiln was restored in 1993–94 and has 18 firing chambers and brick-lined arched passageways. These architectural details give the site a tangible connection to the history of brickmaking. If you plan to visit, check in advance when the site is open.

The history of the church sites can also be seen in the surrounding area. Ruins of a 12th-century church remain at the old church site in Tjörnarp. It is about 300 metres from the present-day church. A few hundred metres east of Tjörnarps kyrka are also stone settings that probably date from the Late Iron Age. The approximate distance of the church ruins and the tentative dating of the stone settings help distinguish these two historical points of interest.

When choosing a destination, these differences can matter: Tjörnarp offers several marked routes, natural areas and waterside activities, alongside evidence of its brickmaking and church history. The area therefore offers several specific ways to plan a stay that combines hiking with nature or cultural themes.
