Höör: Hiking Trails, Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Höör
Höör combines hiking trails with historic buildings and cultural attractions. If you’re looking for a hotel in Höör, you can start by considering whether hiking, culture or a combination of both suits your stay. For planning, the specific route lengths and the location of individual trails in relation to the train station provide useful guidance; the cultural destinations offer a focus of their own.
Hiking trails and route lengths
The Skåneleden routes SL2 and SL3 run parallel through the centre of Höör and pass the train station. This means you can start or finish a hike in Höör. Brottets bana is about 3 kilometres long, rated easy to moderate, and runs between Höörs Mölla and Stanstorps stenbrott in Stenskogen. At selected points, there are information boards with maps and information about the area’s history. A map brochure is also available in a mailbox at Höörs Mölla. Höörs Mölla is about 1.5 kilometres from Höör train station.
The 16-kilometre Pilgrimsleden starts at Frihetens kapell near Stiftsgården Åkersberg. If choosing by route length, Brottets bana’s approximately three kilometres can be compared with the Pilgrimsleden’s 16 kilometres; Brottets bana is easy to moderate. Sandstone quarrying in Stenskogen dates back to the 12th century. The material was used to make building stones and millstones—a historical connection linking the hiking trail’s surroundings with local building history.
Church and culture in Höör
Höör Church was built in the second half of the 12th century by Mårten Stenmästare, using stone from Höörs stenskog. The apse, chancel and nave of the medieval church have been preserved. The original baptismal font bears the runic inscription “Martin mik giarde”, which is probably attributed to Mårten Stenmästare. The building’s history, preserved architecture and inscription give the church several historical facets.
In the centre, Kulturhuset Anders offers concerts, theatre, dance, art exhibitions and cinema. Höörs konsthall art gallery is also located in Kulturhuset Anders and holds around ten exhibitions a year. The venue thus brings together different forms of culture in one central location.
The architectural history of other buildings in Höör can also be explored: the school museum is housed in a stone building dating from the 1830s, which was Höör’s first school. The present-day Gästgivaregård is said to have a history as an inn dating back to the early 18th century. Berggrenska gården, a Scanian longhouse from the 19th century in the centre, is closed until further notice.
Nature destinations in the surrounding area
In the area around Höör, Orups strövområde offers five walking and hiking loops of varying lengths, mountain biking trails and hilly terrain. The mix of different loops and mountain biking trails makes the area another option for outdoor activities, while the hilly terrain shapes the landscape.
The Frostavallen recreation area is about five kilometres from Höör train station. The loop around Vaxsjön is just under 3 kilometres long. Its paved surface makes it suitable for wheelchairs and strollers; wheelchair users may need assistance in some places. Both the route length and the accessibility information should therefore be taken into account when planning.
In spring, carpets of wood anemones, yellow anemones and wild garlic bloom on the wooded basalt hill Allarps bjär. The Skåneleden trail passes through the nature reserve there. For a different natural setting, Klintaskogen is also located in the Höör area: a large part of the nature reserve consists of tall, mature beech forest along Östra Ringsjön; a trail follows the former shoreline.
