History and Art

Nedre Ala includes a residential house dating from around 1890 on a former agricultural estate, as well as two Bronze Age burial mounds. These two traces of the past belong to very different historical periods: the house is associated with the period around 1890, while the burial mounds date from the Bronze Age. The history of the house and the much older burial sites thus stand side by side as distinct cultural and historical topics.

The Lagaholm Castle ruins are in the centre of Laholm, right next to the power station on the Lagan River. The castle was built in the 13th century. Two separate dates are also associated with S:t Clemens Church: it was built in 1225, and its tower dates from 1632.

Teckningsmuseet is the only museum of drawing in the Nordic countries. If you are specifically interested in drawing, its unique focus offers a clear thematic starting point. Laholm is also home to Lagafontänen, a public artwork in Stortorget and Laholm’s oldest and largest public artwork.

The Lagan, the Coast and Activities

Hallandstrafiken’s bus route 225 runs hourly from Laholm along the municipality’s entire coastline. If you plan to use this connection, check the current timetable before travelling.

The Lagan between the power station in Laholm and its mouth at the sea is considered one of Sweden’s best salmon fishing waters, measured by the number of fish landed. This ranking is based on that catch figure. Fishing seasons and regulations can change, so check the current rules if you plan to fish.

Lagaleden stretches for 150 kilometres from Lake Bolmen in SmĂĄland to the sea at Laholmsbukten. Canoe rental is available along the entire route. When planning, both the total distance and the option to rent a canoe are relevant; seasonal services may change, so it is advisable to check current availability.

At Hjörnered, the Lagan connects with the artificial lake system Hjörneredssjöarna. Canoes can also be rented there. While Lagaleden describes a long route from lake to sea, Hjörnered refers to the lake system and its connection to the Lagan.

Laholms Ångbåtsförening runs summer boat tours on the Lagan aboard the steamship S/S Lagaholm. Check the specific dates before your trip for these seasonal excursions.

More Leisure Activities

Gamla Krukmakeriet in Laholm offers pottery courses for adults and children. For current course dates, check the operator’s channels. Pottery is a different kind of activity from those on the water: the focus here is on courses for both age groups.
