Våxtorp combines cultural history and handicrafts with a recurring market and a clearly located park site. You can plan your visit around different highlights: the textile tradition, the history of the church and castle, a market day, or the location of Kungsbygget Adventure Park on Hallandsåsen.

Handicrafts and the history of patterns

In the parish of Våxtorp, knitting, or *bindslöjd*—known in Halland as “binge”—was already an important source of supplementary income alongside farming during hard times in the 17th century. Over the centuries, binge developed into a rich collection of patterns typical of southern Halland. This tradition therefore brings together two aspects: a practical supplement to agricultural income and a distinctive repertoire of regionally characteristic patterns. For those interested in culture, this offers a way to explore Våxtorp through its history of work and handicrafts, not only through its buildings.

Visitors can weave in the workshop of the Våxtorps Hembygdsförening, which currently has three looms. This opportunity to try a hands-on craft complements the historical perspective on bindslöjd with a practical activity. Visitors are also invited to help with general upkeep at the Våxtorp heritage farm on summer Tuesday afternoons.

The church and traces of the past

Våxtorp Church has medieval origins dating back to the 13th century. A fire completely destroyed the church on 24 July 1884; its reconstruction is also part of its history. A large Bofors steel triangle from the time of the fire hangs to the left of the door. The roots of Vallen Castle in Våxtorp date back to the 14th century. The castle is listed among the historic buildings in Halland County under Våxtorp; the year given is 1978. The church and castle offer two distinct historical perspectives: the church’s origins in the 13th century and the turning point of 1884, and the castle’s roots dating back to the 14th century.

Market dates and directions

The Våxtorp Market is held twice a year, on the first Friday in June and September. Check the exact dates before your trip if you would like to plan your visit for a market day. Goods and food on offer include honey, fried herring, berries and grilled sausages; individual vendors may vary.

The market and parking are located on Rössjöholmsvägen in Våxtorp. The market date and directions are given separately: the month and day of the week help with planning, while the street identifies the market location.

Våxtorp on Hallandsåsen

Kungsbygget Adventure Park is located on Hallandsåsen in Våxtorp, right on the border between Halland and Scania. This provides another geographical point of reference for Våxtorp: alongside the history of its handicrafts and local area, the focus here is on the town’s location on Hallandsåsen and on the border between the two provinces.

When planning your visit, note that the market and the invitation to help with upkeep are not the same event: the market is held on the first Fridays in June and September, while the invitation to help with general upkeep applies to summer Tuesday afternoons.
