Koszuty offers two distinct points of interest for a stay: DwĂłr w Koszutach combines a historical architectural story with reconstructed rooms and exhibits; the southern section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route also passes through the village. The manor house is situated in a small landscaped park. You can therefore explore Koszuty through its architecture and exhibition, or through the course of a cycling route. These two themes appeal to different travel interests: the manor house offers a cultural and historical focus, while the cycling route is a named route through several places.

The manor house and Baroque architectural features

The manor house was probably built shortly after 1750 as a timber-framed structure made of larch wood and clay, resting on an oak sill; parts of the building are made of brick. Timber framing is a construction method that uses a wooden framework; clay is also part of the structure here, while brick forms individual sections. The combination of timber framing and masonry gives the building a clearly articulated material character. The approximate date places its construction in the mid-18th century.

Despite later alterations, the surviving room layout and some decorative façade elements allow the building to be classified as a Baroque monument. To understand its architecture, it is worth considering both together: surviving features establish its Baroque character, while later alterations are also part of the house’s history.

Reconstructed rooms and collection

Six rooms have been reconstructed in the manor house: the dining room, guest room, salon, lady of the house’s room, master of the house’s room and children’s room. Their names divide the exhibition into different living spaces and make the sequence of rooms another way to explore the house, alongside its construction. The exhibits are mainly furniture, paintings and household objects dating from before the First World War. In the children’s room, the exhibits date as late as 1939. Compared with the presumed construction date shortly after 1750, most of the objects on display come from a much later period; the children’s room extends even further, with exhibits dating up to 1939.

Historic monument and cycling route

The manor house and park complex in Koszuty was declared a Pomnik Historii (Historic Monument) by decree of the President of the Republic of Poland on 20 April 2018. The designation applies to the complex of manor house and park. The date 20 April 2018 marks the monument designation, not the construction of the manor house, which is dated to shortly after 1750.

The cycling route gives the village another, quite different connection for travellers. The southern section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route runs from Poznań in the direction of Tulce and continues through Koszuty to Środa Wielkopolska. This sequence of places puts Koszuty on the route and distinguishes this travel connection from the manor house’s cultural and historical focus. The manor house is about its construction, reconstructed rooms and collection; the cycling route, by contrast, is about a named direction and sequence of places.
