Zaniemysl lies on the shore of Lake Raczyńskie. The bathing area, narrow-gauge railway and several memorial sites offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Zaniemysl, you can plan your trip around whichever of these interests you most. Access and train operations are relevant to current visit planning, while the dates at the cemetery provide a historical timeline: Wyspa Edwarda is currently inaccessible, and the shop is open on weekends when trains are running.

Bathing and access at Lake Raczyńskie

The bathing area at Lake Raczyńskie was revitalized in 2023 for recreation, leisure and tourism. The work also included a shelter for the water equipment rental service. The revitalization thus covered both recreational use of the bathing area and a facility for renting water equipment.

Wyspa Edwarda is also on the lake, but is currently inaccessible to visitors because the footbridge between the island and the mainland cannot be used. Before visiting, check whether this restriction is still in effect. So, being located on the same lake does not mean having the same current access status.

Narrow-gauge railway and station

The Powiatowa Kolejka Wąskotorowa is a narrow-gauge railway attraction connecting Środa Wielkopolska and Zaniemysl. The station building in Zaniemysl houses a memorial room about the narrow-gauge railway and railway history. While the railway connects two places, the memorial room focuses on the railway and its history.

On weekends when trains are running, a railway shop is open in the former station waiting room. It sells souvenirs, light snacks and drinks. As operating days may change, check the operator’s timetable before visiting. What matters is not just any weekend, but a weekend when trains are running.

Memorial sites and history

The former Jewish cemetery in Zaniemysl was probably established towards the end of the 18th century in the woods on what is now Chmielniki Street. A lapidarium with sandstone fragments of gravestones was created at the cemetery in 2014. The fragments bear Hebrew and German inscriptions.

The cemetery’s approximate date and the specific year 2014 for the lapidarium refer to different points in time. This distinguishes the cemetery’s probable early establishment from the later creation of the lapidarium.

The tomb of Edward Raczyński is located at the west wall of the church. The tomb features a statue of Hygieia with facial features resembling those of Konstancja Raczyńska. This memorial site differs from the lapidarium: there, the stone fragments and inscriptions shape the impression, while here it is the statue and its facial features.
