Kamionna combines a historic townscape with the Kamionka Valley south of the town. The Market Square retains the character it had when Kamionna was a town; the church and milestone add further tangible points of reference to the town’s history. The valley provides a natural focal point, with wooded ravines, meadows and spring areas. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Kamionna, these features can help you get a sense of the destination’s character.

Market Square, church and milestone

A former town hall stands in the centre of the Market Square. Around it are several 19th-century half-timbered houses and a statue of Saint Lawrence. The square retains the character it had when Kamionna was a town. Together, the town hall, half-timbered houses and saint’s statue shape the historic square and show different elements of the former town centre.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is in the southwest of Kamionna, west of the Market Square, on a high bank above the Kamionna River. Its location sets it apart from the Market Square while also connecting it to the river.

A bell-shaped milestone stands beside the church. It was erected between 1826 and 1835 on the main road from Poznań to Berlin. It originally stood by the fire station and was later moved to the church. The monument thus connects the history of a historic main road with a change of location within Kamionna: its original site and its place beside the church belong to different chapters of its history.

The Kamionka Valley and its protected area

The Kamionka Valley, south of Kamionna, covers 1,970 hectares and is part of the Dolina Kamionki Landscape Protection Park. It is deeply incised and features wooded ravines with beech forest, oak-hornbeam forests, alder carrs, meadows and spring areas. The description therefore includes open landscapes and areas shaped by springs, as well as wooded areas.

The park protects the landscape of the Kamionka Valley, natural valley ecosystems and habitats for rare and protected plants, animals and fungi. It covers 2,046.86 hectares; this figure refers to the park, while 1,970 hectares refers to the valley. Its protection history dates back to 1986, when the area was protected as one of two parts of the Pszczew Landscape Protection Park. Since 2019, the Dolina Kamionki Landscape Protection Park has existed under its current name and within its current boundaries. Both its landscape features and its conservation purpose are therefore important for understanding the natural area.
