Czempiń brings together several distinct points of interest for a trip: a Baroque palace, two churches with their own building histories, a historic street layout, glass panels featuring old photographs, and an educational trail at the Stacja Badawcza PZŁ Czempiń. If you are looking for a hotel in Czempiń, you can decide in advance whether you are primarily interested in architectural history and the townscape or in the educational trail’s themes. The former market square and the church’s location to its east are useful landmarks for finding your way around the center; cyclists can also note the endpoint of cycle route No. 7.

Palace, Churches, and a Listed Town Layout

The palace in Czempiń is one of the most impressive Baroque residences in Greater Poland. It was rebuilt in the 1730s, with work completed in 1739. The construction date provides a clear reference point for placing the palace in the town’s history.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built between 1895 and 1899 on the site of an earlier building, which was mentioned as early as 1405. The year 1405 refers to the earlier building, not the present-day church. The Church of St. Simon and St. Jude the Apostles was built of masonry in 1782 on the site of a wooden church that had previously been demolished. It predates the late-19th-century construction of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel; the two churches therefore have different building histories.

The historic town layout is also part of the local heritage: it was entered in the Greater Poland Voivodeship’s register of monuments in 2008. In addition to the construction dates of individual buildings, the historic structure of the town is a point of reference in its own right.

Market Square, Town Views, and Cultural Sites

Czempiń’s central square is a former market square. The church stands to its east, on the square’s axis. This spatial relationship helps you understand how the square and church are positioned in relation to each other in the town center.

The tourism project “Czempiń na szklanych pocztówkach” installed glass panels with transparent reproductions of old photographs around Czempiń. The photographs show important places in the town and date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The project thus connects the town views depicted on the panels with historical photographs.

Another cultural landmark is TLENOWNIA: it is the new home of the cultural center, the Public Library, and the Czempiń Museum Room.

Educational Trail and Cycle Route

The educational trail “Zwierzęta naszych lasów, pól i przestworzy” at the Stacja Badawcza PZŁ Czempiń provides visitors with information about the station’s work and the animals kept there. The focus here is on sharing knowledge about the station’s work and its animals.

Cycle route No. 7 ends in Czempiń at its junction with cycle route No. 1, near the railway crossing at the intersection of Kolejowa and 24. Stycznia. The junction and the railway crossing provide specific landmarks for this endpoint. If you include the route in your plans, check the current signs on site.
